🐨 It's Save the Koala Day! 🐨
(For some of us rescuers, it’s that day everyday)

So let’s celebrate and educate by sharing and revelling just one of the amazing lives saved so far…

This boy’s story…. From his amazing carer….

‘Sometimes life starts without mumma, and that's where carers come into play.

This little boy was found by himself, crying and scared. In care he was kept warm and snug, and it took a few days to settle.

When he realised he was safe he became a cheeky little darling who never looked back.

After months of feeding milk around the clock. (Every 3-4 hours!) and nice leaf, he was taken to koala kindy where he learned to be a wild koala. RAWWWRRRR

After 10 months, it was time for him to go back to the wild. Luckily for him, and unlike many other koalas, he is in an area where the dedicated residents can keep a close eye on him, his development and his environment.

As of today? So far, so good!
Go wild little darling! 🐨 💓 ‘

What can you do to help save our precious (and officially endangered) koalas?

📞 Keep the phone number of your local wildlife rescue groups handy. (Just google Koala rescue near me) or if all else fails, call our friends at Wildcare Australia Inc. who will be able to connect you with a local rescue.

You can make a BIG difference by simply making the call and reporting it when you see any injured, sick or orphaned wildlife.

Did you know that relocating green tree frogs is usually harmful and often illegal without a specific wildlife permit? It’s true and this is why:

🐸 Spread of disease: One of the biggest threats to amphibians is disease. The risk of introducing lethal diseases and parasites to a healthy frog population is extremely high.

🐸 Homing Instinct: Green tree frogs have strong sight fidelity…in other words, they know their territory well. Frogs that are moved can experience stress, struggle to find food and water, and will to try to navigate what can be a hazardous journey. Put simply, displacement is potentially a death sentence.

🐸 Legal Protection: In Australia, native amphibians are a legally protected species. Unlawfully capturing, moving, or translocating not only green frogs, any wild frogs or tadpoles can rightfully attract significant environmental fines.

⛑️ If you find a green tree frog appears unwell, or is at risk of being injured, or worse, be a wildlife hero and make a call to your local wildlife rescue. If you are instructed to pick it it up, be sure to wear wet, powder free gloves as chemical residues that live on our skin (like hand cream, or soap) easily harm their permeable skin.

Ever seen a Golden Possum??

We have!

Did you know that Golden possums in Queensland are rare color morphs of the Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) or specialized localized species. Instead of the standard ‘silvery-grey coat’, these unique marsupials showcase distinct, eye-catching variations.

Most golden possums are not albino. Their striking, bright golden-orange fur is caused by a genetic mutation known as leucism. This limits the production of dark melanin pigment in their fur but leaves their eyes a normal dark brown or black.

As spectacular as they are. sadly their chances in the wild are slim. Why? Well heres a few of the reasons:

1/High Visibility:

While standard grey possums blend seamlessly into the night canopy, golden and albino variants glow brightly under the moonlight.

2/ Targeted by Predators:

This lack of camouflage makes them an incredibly easy target for native and introduced predators, such as powerful owls, pythons, wild dogs, and foxes.

3/ Low Survival Rates:

Because of the heavy predation risk, they rarely survive long enough to breed or reach old age in the wild. Consequently, they are much more common in safe wildlife sanctuaries or urban areas with fewer natural threats

💩 Seriously, you’ve gone to the trouble to bag your pets p**p, so why do half the job? 💩

Bagging your dog’s p**p and dumping it isn’t being responsible, it’s wrapping natural waste in plastic. The moment you deliberately dump it, you’re littering.

While they are are designed to be an eco-friendly alternative to standard plastic, they still cause severe environmental damage when littered or disposed of improperly.
