ACT Small Training Provider of the Year 2026. MBA Training | RTO 88163 In the ACT Master Builders was formed in 1925.

Founded in 1925, Master Builders ACT has played a key role in the local building and construction industry representing builders, suppliers, subcontractors and professionals. The Master Builders Association is Australia’s major building and construction industry association—and Australia's oldest industry association. Founded in the early 1870s in Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle, the movement quickly grew in each state and territory before being federated nationally in 1890. Since that time, the Master Builders has grown to over 30,000 members, with offices in all major cities of Australia. It employs over 400 experienced staff with qualifications in a diverse range of disciplines including building, engineering, law, management, economics, marketing, accounting, industrial relations, safety, building surveying and training. The Master Builders Association of the ACT is part of the national Master Builders Federation. Each Master Builders operates independently to ensure that they service the needs of their local members. Master Builders ACT has members from five sectors, these are:

Residential Builders
Commercial Builders
Civil Contractors
Sub-Contractors/Trade-Contractors & Suppliers
Professional consultants
In addition to these the Master Builders has an associate membership for retirees and students that enjoy basic services provided by the association.

Myth: Master Builders ACT membership is only for builders.

Reality: Our Professional sector includes architects, engineers, building designers, interior designers, quantity surveyors, building officials, educators, real estate agents, legal and accounting professionals, banks, credit unions and other financial providers, and information technologists.

If your work touches the building and construction industry in the ACT, even from the design table, the finance side, or the legal side, there's a membership sector for you.

Members also get access to networking, advertising opportunities, and CPD points, useful if your profession requires ongoing development hours.

Not sure which sector you fit into? Reach out and we'll help you work it out.

What's at stake as ACT construction industry crumbles 30/09/2026

According to the latest Master Builders Australia forecasts, so far the ACT has started just 7,490 of the 8,412 new homes it needs to reach its National Housing Accord targets, with the outlook not likely to improve in the near future. With pressures from rising interest rates, materials costs and building standards, some builders are being priced out of the industry.

The scheme would also add thousands of dollars in fees to the cost of building a new home, she said, at a time when Canberra "desperately" needed more.

"Every regulatory intervention should be tested against two fundamental objectives: will it help us deliver better-quality buildings, and will those buildings remain commercially feasible to deliver?"

"[This] announcement does very little to advance either."

In this block, our apprentices are completing the construction of boxed and raked eaves.

During the week, apprentices use timber frames to line eaves for both a brick veneer and a timber cladded dwelling.

Apprentices will learn:
🧰 Finishing of gable ends, including verge and flush.
🧰 Cutting compound mitres of the fascia to match the pitch of the roof and 45 degrees.

Get in touch with our training team to discuss sending your apprentices to MBA.

Meet the Master Builders and Asset Construction Hire Excellence Awards Sustainable Project of 2026 from Wodens

The Kings and Monaro Highway Pavement Rehabilitation project by Woden Contractors tackled severe rutting, potholes and cracking across two high-volume corridors.

With a 40-year life objective and sustainability embedded in the project from the start.

Rather than wholesale removal, the team prioritised in-situ recycling through foamed bitumen stabilisation. This slashed demand for imported quarry materials, reduced spoil haulage, and cut greenhouse emissions dramatically: 348 tonnes saved at Kings Highway (43% less than deep-lift asphalt), and 1,699 tonnes at Monaro Highway (51% less).

Sustainable Project winners:
Sustainable Civil Project - Kings Highway and Monaro Highway Pavement Rehabilitation, Woden Contractors
Sustainable Residential Project - Macgregor, Vdara Construction and Neighbourhood Architecture
Sustainable Commercial Project - Garran Primary School P-6 Modernisation, Joss Construction

Congratulations to all our winners.

Meet the Master Builders and Asset Construction Hire Excellence Awards Medium Density Project of 2026 from Sterne Homes and McDonald & Co.

This dual-occupancy masterpiece by Sterne Homes and McDonald & Co delivers not one, but two distinctive homes, each commanding its own address, its own driveway, and its own architectural identity on a prominent Deakin corner block.

What sets this dual-occupancy development apart is the deliberate effort to read as two stand-alone residences.

Contrasting façades, distinct material palettes, and green roofs create separation and two very different-feeling homes. A striking off-form concrete feature wall divides the properties.

Medium Density Project winners:
🔸 Medium Density Townhouses and Villas - Preferred Builders, DNA Architects Canberra and Viceroy Studio
🔸 Medium Density Dual Occupancy/Habitable Suite - Sterne Homes and McDonald & Co.

Congratulations to all our winners.

And thanks to our award partner, Miele

Meet the Master Builders and Asset Construction Hire Excellence Awards Residential Renovation/Extension Project of 2026 from Manteena Architects Ring & Associates and Archertec Interiors

The design approach focused on meaningful renewal: preserve the home’s heritage identity while transforming it into a brighter, more connected and functional family residence.

Central to the success of the project was Manteena’s ‘protection first’ philosophy, which safeguarded original façades, timber floors, and the feature brick fireplace while reconfiguring internal spaces.

Natural stone with rich veining elevates the kitchen and bathrooms, while heritage details, including fireplaces, cornices, skirtings, and ceiling roses, were carefully restored and integrated.

Residential Renovation/Extension Project winners:
Renovation/Extension less than $250,000 - ELITE Renovations ACT
Renovation/Extension $250,000 to $450,000 - Prof Homes and Jast Design
Renovation/Extension $450,000 to $1 million - NEWR - Home Design & Renovation
Renovation/Extension $1 million to $2.5 million - Vdara Construction
Renovation/Extension more than $2.5 million - Manteena, Architects Ring and Associates and Archertec Interiors

Congratulations to all our winners.
