The colourful peacocks around Cataract Gorge have become a much loved part of the scenery. They are introduced birds, not native to Tasmania, but today they add a little extra magic to the area.

he Alexandra Suspension Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks within the iconic Cataract Gorge Reserve in Launceston, Tasmania. Spanning roughly 60 metres across the South Esk River near the First Basin, this narrow pedestrian footbridge offers spectacular, panoramic views of the rugged dolerite cliffs and the rushing waters below. It serves as a vital pedestrian link connecting the leafy Cliff Grounds side of the gorge to the First Basin swimming pool and cafe area.

Walking up the road itself is not allowed for safety reasons, but you can drive or cycle up to enjoy views of Australia's largest boulder field and nearby walks like Legges Tor. A valid Parks Pass is required.
