Supporting an Artificial Surfing Reef at Ocean Reef

Surfing is more than a sport — it brings people together, supports health and wellbeing, and creates a lasting connection with the ocean.

The construction of the Ocean Reef Marina has resulted in the loss of three much-loved natural surfing spots — Pilons, Mozzies and Big Rock. These waves were an important part of our local surfing community and coastline.

An artificial surfing reef could help replace some of what has been lost while creating benefits for the whole community, including recreation, tourism, local businesses and improved coastal protection. It may also help manage wave energy, reduce erosion and support a healthier marine environment.

We, the surfers, families, residents, visitors and supporters of Ocean Reef, are coming together to show our strong support for an artificial reef that we would proudly use and surf.

We call on all levels of government — local, state and federal — to work together with the community, surfing organisations and relevant experts to support, fund and ensure this important project is properly planned and completed.

If you would surf it, support it and want to see a new wave created for our community, add your name to this petition.

If you live in the City of Joondalup can you please sign our petition to re-table an artificial reef at Mullaloo? This was promised to the surfing community during the Ocean Reef marina build and was taken away from us! Please! We need as many signatures as possible…

🌞 30° in Perth today ... so whatever the conditions were, we were going in somewhere 🌊

Rocked up at Mullaz to small waves, but nice shape... got in the water and was actually way more fun than we expected.. 🏄‍♀️ 2 hours later, got out mainly cos we were hungry 🤤

🤔 Possibly a second sunset surf.... 🌅 What you think? ....

🌞 South side surf today ... cruised our way down to Cottesloe for a cruisey day in the sun 🏄‍♀️ 💙

🏄‍♀️ Friday Fun ... we had eyes up and down the coast today and things were not looking good 🙈😭

🤔 Final choice was go in at Mullaz or go to the gym ... decided it was too nice a day to get indoors so decided to just get in the water for some fun 🌊

So glad we did! 🤩 2 hours later we dragged ourselves out 😂 We found some really fun waves and had the place to ourselves, the sun was shining, the water was devine 🏄‍♂️🌞🌊✨️ 🤩 Awesome Friday 🙌🙌🙌

🌞🌸 Beautiful spring day, great company, yummy after surf feed, enjoying the vibe with an after surf snack.
