To give you a taste, here are just a few of the items you'll see if you visit:

❤️ A parcel box from WWII, prepared by volunteers for Australian servicemen held as prisoners of war overseas ( )

🦮 Guide Dogs WA collection tins, past and present

🧷 A blanket studded with Girl Guides WA pins and badges

👮 Constable Care Foundation legacy puppets, which you might remember from your primary school excursions

🦓 A Perth Zoo animal enrichment zebra, handmade by volunteers. These are filled with food treats for carnivores like lions and hyenas, for special occasions like animal birthdays.

🦘 Joey raising pouches, handmade by volunteers and used for vulnerable or orphaned joeys at Caversham Wildlife Park

3,100 safe s*x kits packed to help prevent HIV and STIs across WA!

Last week we ran a corporate volunteering team day with BHP volunteers at WAAC , giving staff a day out of the office and giving back to the community. They spent the session chatting and competing to see who could pack the most safe s*x kits.

Everyone has the right to access condoms and have happy, healthy and safe s*x lives, so it was a great cause to spend the morning supporting.

By the end of the session everyone had become experts on packing the safe s*x kits. Great work to the BHP volunteers, and thanks WAAC for having us!

"Even though I am only 11, I know that small actions can make a big difference."

Meet Lockyer from South Hedland, only 11 years old and already making a difference through Care For Hedland Environmental Association's turtle monitoring program.

Last year when Lockyer was at Cemetery Beach with his older sister, he noticed some turtles coming up on to the beach. They listened to some Care for Hedland volunteers about the important work they do, and it inspired Lockyer to sign up as a volunteer.

As a volunteer, Lockyer gets up early and heads down to the beach to look for turtle tracks, nests and sometimes even baby turtles 🐢

"One afternoon I was given the job of monitoring my very own turtle while she came ashore to nest. I had to make sure people gave her enough space while also explaining to them what she was doing as she was digging her nest to lay her eggs. It was an amazing experience and something I will never forget."

The Thriving Kids Family and Children Support Program Grants are closing on 30 September 2026.

The program will fund new or enhance existing community-based projects and initiatives that work with families of carers to strengthen their knowledge, skills and confidence to support their children.
