👉 Why did you go into event management?
I enjoy the process of bringing an event to life from an initial concept, up to seeing it unfold on the day or night for people to enjoy. Being a type A person (ambitious, driven), the role works well with my personality type! This is my fifth year working full-time in event management, with some practical placements during my year of study prior to this.

👉 What do you like most about the behind-the-scenes planning of events?
I enjoy the mixture of following organised structures but still having the freedom to be creative and figure out how to do things better and more efficiently. Working with a good team, bouncing ideas off each other, and leaning on different strengths makes the lead-up to an event enjoyable.

👉 What memories stand out for you throughout your career?
Working alongside fellow purpose.ground event manager Kate Chetwin for the WA Rural Health Excellence Awards has been notably memorable over the past five years. Watching the event grow each year and seeing our ideas come to life has been rewarding and a valuable experience. We have plenty of memories from each year that we often reminisce on!

👉 What would you say your strengths are?
Being Type A supports the organisational strengths in my role. I also have a strong background in hospitality and retail, so customer service and the delegate experience are always at the forefront of my mind when planning any event.

👉 How are you feeling about purpose.ground?
I feel excited for people to see what we can provide. Externally, it may appear as a rather ‘new’ venture, but I feel as though we have been quietly achieving in this space and establishing purpose.ground allows us to showcase our experience and professionalism to the broader industry.

👉 What do you enjoy about event management – what makes you passionate?
I am passionate about creating memorable, enjoyable experiences for event attendees. I enjoy seeing an idea come to life after months of preparation and being rewarded by the success of the planning and management.

👉 You led the delivery of the 11th Australasian Association of Histology and Histotechnology Conference held over the weekend. What did this entail?
Everything. Client liaison, venue coordination, sponsor and exhibitor liaison, program development, social program, financial management. I loved delivering this event, especially seeing our client so happy.

👉 What made you get into event management?
A friend suggested I look into Event Management as a career, as I was such an organised person. More than 20 years later, I have not looked back. I have since worked as a Professional Conference Organiser for corporate and not-for-profit organisations and have coordinated incentive travel programs.

👉 What are you most excited for at purpose.ground?
The fact that every dollar of profit generated through our events goes back into Rural Health West to continue their great work supporting health professionals and caring for rural communities is so powerful to me!

👉 How do the skills and experiences you gained here transfer across to purpose.ground?
The job is essentially the same, regardless of the event. The real skill is in managing the moving parts- bringing people, logistics and experiences together. One of the best things about event management is that every event introduces you to a new subject area, and you naturally become more knowledgeable as the planning journey unfolds.

👉 What is an anecdote or an insight on what happens behind the scenes that delegates never see?
It sounds glamorous, but the reality is that Event Managers are often getting ready in the nearest bathroom cubicle because they're too busy making sure everyone else's experience runs smoothly.

👉 When did your life in event management begin?
My journey into event management started during my “gap year” while travelling overseas. In London, I worked for a training organisation, where I was introduced to workshops, courses, educational programs and events, and I was hooked!

👉 What moments stand out from across your career?
I’ve been lucky enough to deliver events in some truly incredible locations: from a gala dinner overlooking Sydney Harbour, to sunset drinks on Cable Beach in Broome, and emergency training events in Karijini. From big metropolitan cities to the middle of the desert, every event has brought its own memorable moments, challenges and stories.

👉 What do you love about events?
The people, the energy and the unexpected moments! I love bringing people together, creating experiences and seeing an event come to life after months of planning. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching a room full of people connect, learn, share ideas and enjoy themselves - knowing that all the little details behind the scenes have helped make it happen. No two events are ever the same, and that’s what keeps it exciting!

👉 What makes a great event?
A great event is one where people feel connected, engaged and looked after. It’s about having a clear purpose, getting the details right and creating an experience that people remember for the right reasons. When everything comes together seamlessly, and you can see people enjoying themselves, learning, connecting and taking something away from the experience, that’s a great event.

👉 How are you feeling about purpose.ground?
I’m incredibly excited to lead and establish purpose.ground for Rural Health West. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring people together, create meaningful connections, and build something with lasting impact.
