I grew up in Sydney, Australia in a family that never went camping or on outdoors adventures. Therefore, it came as somewhat of a surprise to discover bushwalking and camping in my mid 20′s and it fast became somewhat of an obsession. Since then, I’ve become a leader with the Sydney Bush Walkers Club and the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad, an affiliate squad of the Volunteer Rescue Association. The outdoors totally changed my life and I’m keen to share my knowledge and stories with others – hoping that they’ll catch the bug too! When I’m not out in the bush, I can be found running a Production and Consultancy company based in Sydney, shooting in remote and logistically tricky locations such as jungles, volcanoes and on the high seas. You can email me at [email protected]. In July 2013, as an avid user of their products for over 10 years, I was delighted to be appointed a Macpac Ambassador.

A smart watch or sports watch can be a big investment. So when I took a the Suunto Vertical (titanium) for a road (or is that track?) test, I started to think about the CPG (cost per glance) spread out over the 10 years or so that I'm likely to own one. In doing so, I found everything I wanted in a watch that will be my friend for many years to come.

To help us all do the right thing in keeping invasive species like weeds and other nasties out of our incredible wild places, I've created a downloadable DIY hiking boot spray printable tag. It features the 2 recommended recipes for the spray (on the front) and loads of tips (on the back). The idea is that you make a spray bottle for yourself, gift a bottle to your outdoorsy mates, and keep one in the boot of your car, garage, laundry, whenever you enter/exit our precious natural places. Easy! https://shop.lotsafreshair.com/product/invasive-species-boot-spray-tag/

I'm completely captivated by this grass roots organisation First Hike Project and the incredible work they're doing to help young refugees connect to nature, to community and ultimately, to themselves. By introducing vulnerable youth to the Aussie bush, you can create connections and help heal. Why not volunteer or setup your own hub?

Can a place truly be considered timeless? Whereas mainland holiday destinations, like any coastal town in Australia, bear witness to the power of developers, where the sand covered floor of the local fish n’ chip shop has made way for the ubiquitous coastal chic cafe (with high rise apartments above), I wondered how Lord Howe has fared in the nearly four decades since I last peddled alongside the lagoon. It's a bit of a different story from me, I hope you like it!
Lord Howe Island : Then and now - Photo Essay - Lotsafreshair Lord Howe Island is simply paradise. It's been 38 years since I visited and time to return and see what hasn't changed. It's a hikers and birders dream.
