The City of Montreal is replacing a freeway with a linear park thereby connecting people to the St.Lawrence River on a human scale.

• The $282 million project will reconnect the city to the St. Lawrence River by way of a linear park. --- A section of Montreal's Bonaventure Expressway is to be reconfigured into an urban boulevard, with the new roadway moved 115 feet back from the St. Lawrence River to create a linear riverside park. The $282 million reconfiguration will give Montrealers, and visitors, access to a 1.5-mile stretch of the river along a multipurpose path for cyclists, walkers and skaters, and a waterside promenade for pedestrians. The project will introduce 650 trees, as well as 18,000 shrubs and 13,000 perennials. Speed limits on the new boulevard will be 50 km/h (~30 mph), a big drop from the 70 km/h (~45 mph) limit on the existing freeway, and traffic lights will be installed at two intersections. The new boulevard will overlap with an existing local street, which will be eliminated. The overall changes will reduce the road footprint by 40%. More at tinyurl.com/4p9k237j
