This week, we're catching up with Josh, one of the talented carpenters behind our AVP Projects builds. 🔨🏡

Josh's building journey started early. After leaving school at 15, he began labouring for a local builder before starting his carpentry apprenticeship at 16. Since then, he's built a wealth of experience, including running his own construction company, giving him a unique understanding of what it takes to deliver great projects from start to finish.

A few things we learned over a seriously strong coffee:

🔨 How did you get started in the industry?
I left school at 15 and started labouring for a local builder, with my sights firmly set on a carpentry apprenticeship.

👷 What do you bring to the AVP team?
Carpentry, the best trade of them all! Along with hands-on experience, Josh brings leadership, accountability and a passion for setting the standard on site.

💡 Best lesson learned?
How you do something is how you should do everything.

🏡 What makes AVP different?
The genuine care for both our clients and every project. Josh believes AVP combines an effective business model with a real passion for building exceptional homes.

❤️ Favourite part of seeing a home come to life?
Watching clients' reactions as their vision starts becoming reality.

💪 What motivates you each day?
Heading home knowing the team has had a great day and done a good job.

🤝 What do you love about the AVP team?
It's about getting the job right, not just hitting timeframes. AVP produces quality projects and we're accountable for delivering them properly.

🪵 Favourite material and tool?
Timber is the material of choice, framing is his favourite stage of the build and his impact driver is never far away.

☕ Coffee order?
There's nothing fun about a coffee order, this is a serious question! As long as it's strong and full cream, he's all in.

As families grow, their homes need to evolve with them.

This recently completed South Perth project focused on extending the rear of the existing home to create more space, better functionality and a layout designed for the next chapter of family life.

The centrepiece of the transformation is the stunning new open-plan kitchen and living area, providing a spacious hub where the family can come together while still having room to spread out. Opening directly onto the new rear verandah, the connection between indoors and out creates the perfect setting for both everyday living and entertaining.

One of our favourite additions has to be the hidden bar, cleverly integrated into the living area. Hidden away when not in use and ready to be revealed when entertaining, it's the perfect combination of practicality and style. Safe to say we'd love one in our own home too! 🍸😉

To further enhance the space, we installed a Velux skylight, flooding the kitchen and living area with beautiful natural light throughout the day. The project also included a new laundry, adding valuable functionality to this growing family home.

The result is a home that feels brighter, larger and better connected, creating the space this family needs today while providing flexibility for the years ahead.

This month, we're sitting down with AVP Projects Director, Andy, to learn a little more about the person behind the builds.

Andy began his career as an apprentice carpenter at just 16 years old and while he wears many hats these days, his passion for quality craftsmanship and creating homes that genuinely improve the way families live remains at the heart of everything he does.

A few things we learned over a (very large) flat white:

Just taking a look back through some of our completed projects and came across this one - still one of our favourites.

This beautiful renovation in Bayswater saw the addition of a stunning rear extension to a character-filled workers cottage, creating a spacious new lounge, dining room, kitchen, laundry and mudroom.

Built with a steel frame, this space is all about blending modern functionality with timeless charm. The standout feature? The spectacular raked ceiling, which adds volume, light and that undeniable wow factor.
