There’s a lot happening across the NDIS at the moment.
If you’d like more clarity on the new changes, or want to have your say, there are three opportunities currently available from the NDIS for you to get involved.
1️⃣ 📣 Tell the NDIS what you want to know about the upcoming changes
The NDIS is asking the community what information they would find most useful about the reforms and latest NDIS laws.
You can share your feedback here https://engage.ndis.gov.au/projects/tell-us-what-you-want-to-know-about-ndis-reforms
📅 Closes: 31 December 2026 at 5pm AEST
2️⃣ 📝 Help test the new way of NDIS planning
The NDIS is also testing its new way of planning before it begins rolling out from April 2027.
This is a paid opportunity and participation is voluntary.
Taking part will not change your current NDIS plan, funding, supports or eligibility.
Learn more and register your interest https://engage.ndis.gov.au/projects/test-the-new-way-of-planning
📅 Expressions of interest close: 31 December 2026
3️⃣ 💻NDIA Webinar about the recent legislation changes
The NDIA is also hosting a series of free online webinars for participants, families, carers and kin.

It can be hard to work out exactly how much support your NDIS funding can cover.
There are often so many questions.
Will your funding cover your support worker hours for the next 7 weeks?
Can you afford a 1-hour Occupational Therapy session each week?
Will you still have enough funding left for a new piece of Assistive Technology?
With our FREE NDIS Budget Calculator, it’s simple to work out how your planned supports fit within your budget.
Just follow 3 easy steps:
1. Enter your available NDIS funding
2. Add the supports you want to use
3. See the estimated cost and how it fits within your budget
You can adjust your supports, hours or frequency and see how your budget changes.

Professor Ron McCallum has spent his life breaking barriers.
Born prematurely in 1948, Ron lost his sight after receiving uncontrolled oxygen treatment that was used to help premature babies survive at the time. He later went on to become Australia’s first totally blind professor, an Emeritus Professor of Law at the University of Sydney, Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the 2011 Senior Australian of the Year.
❤️ Ron met Professor Mary Crock, a lawyer, human rights advocate and expert in migration and refugee law, through mutual friends. Mary has said she was immediately drawn to him, and Ron remembers being equally impressed by her.
They went on to build a life together, raise three children and share not only a marriage, but a deep connection through law, human rights and their work.

From 1 October, the NDIA will have the power to suspend a participant’s plan if they need information or reports and have been unable to contact the participant, their nominee or authorised representative.
But this does not mean your plan will be suspended because you missed one phone call.
Before suspending a plan, the NDIA must make reasonable attempts to contact you.
This means they must:
📞 Try to contact you, your nominee or authorised representative at least 5 times
📅 Make those attempts over a period of at least 3 months and no more than 4 months
📩 Use your preferred contact method and, in some cases, make an additional attempt in writing
If your plan is suspended, you must be given written notice.
If you get back in touch with the NDIA within 90 days of the suspension decision, they must take steps to either end the suspension or ask you for the information or reports they need.
If a plan remains suspended for at least 90 days, the NDIA may revoke the person’s NDIS participant status.
So what can you do now?
✅ Make sure your phone number, email and address are up to date with the NDIS
✅ If you have a nominee or authorised representative, check their contact details too
✅ Keep an eye on letters, emails and missed calls from the NDIS
✅ If the NDIS asks you for information and you’re unsure what they need, contact them rather than leaving the request unanswered.

Managing your supports may look like…
📅 Booking and rescheduling appointments
📞 Following up providers
🚗 Organising transport
👥 Managing support worker rosters
📄 Keeping track of service agreements
🧾 Checking invoices
💰 Watching your NDIS budget
📝 Preparing information for reviews and reassessments
Individually, these tasks might seem small. But when you are managing them all at once, week after week, the mental load can really add up. 🧠💜
A few things can help lighten the load:
✔️ Get things out of your head and into something external: a calendar, a notes app, or even a scrappy list on the fridge. Whatever works for you.
✔️ Pick one home for the important stuff, so you're never hunting for a provider's number or last month's invoice.
✔️ Hand off what you can, even just one thing, to someone who's offered and meant it.
✔️ Be vocal when it’s too much. Most people can't help if they don't know.
✔️ Protect a bit of time that's just for switching off, not for catching up.
You may also be able to use NDIS funded supports to take some of that pressure off.
🤝 Support Coordination can help you understand your plan, connect with providers and coordinate your supports.
💰 Plan Management can help with invoices, provider payments and keeping track of your NDIS budget.
If these supports are included in your plan, using them can mean there is a little less for you or your family to manage on your own. 🌷

From 1 October 2026, changes to Social and Community Participation funding will start under the new NDIS laws.
If you use NDIS funding to get out into the community, join a group, attend activities or have a support worker with you when you're out, this can affect you.
This does not mean your current Social and Community Participation budget will suddenly change on 1 October.
The new budget settings will apply when your NDIS plan is reassessed or renewed. Until then, you can continue using your current plan and supports as normal.
If your plan is reassessed or renewed after 1 October, your Social and Community Participation budget may be reduced under the new rules.
Using all of your current funding or keeping supports in place does not guarantee that your next budget will stay the same. The change applies when the NDIA sets your new budget at reassessment or renewal.
If you regularly use Social and Community Participation supports, it is worth knowing about this change before your next plan reassessment.

Plan reassessments: what changed from 27 August 2026 From 27 August 2026, there is a new formal pathway for asking the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to reassess a plan before its scheduled review date. The main change is how a request is made, not an automatic change to everyone’s funding.
