This is the Woolworths owned car park opposite the former Murray Hotel & Yellow CAT stop in West Perth, Friday at 5:45pm.

Remember the proposed Woolworths development on Murray Street? Years on, still no development application in sight, despite planning changes, a new developer, and a revised 2024 proposal. 🏗️

Now the perimeter fence gate is gone or knocked down and tents have appeared inside, while West Perth still waits for that supermarket. 🛒

When one of us is suffering, we all are. 🙏 and everyone deserves a safe place to stay, but not everyone can access existing shelters, especially those struggling with addiction. 🏚️

It's timely that I share this, given Tuesday's Agenda Briefing Session covers the City's position on homelessness and its future strategy and as a capital city, City of Perth needs a plan for right now and a 10-year homelessness strategy, alongside State and Federal Governments. 🤝

This week I shared my thoughts directly with the Lord Mayor, Councillors, our CEO, Acting CEO & Acting GM of Community Development, and reached out to the Lord Mayor and several Councillors via text, so they'd have my input ahead of the meeting.

They know far more than I do about solving this, and I wish them well as they work together on these issues. 🙏

Let's end homelessness in the City of Perth. 💙

On Tuesday, 22 September 2026 at 5pm will be the next City of Perth Agenda Briefing Session 📢

The agenda is now available to read online, one item up for discussion is a proposed "Position on Homelessness" in City of Perth 🏠

This will outline the City's role in advocacy, partnerships and community support 🤝

My hope is that it will Include a call for more housing options, safe night spaces, better coordinated services for people experiencing homelessness, and stronger collaboration with the State Government and care agencies, without duplicating existing services.

🔗 See item 12.2 for more information

Perth needs a genuine 10 year plan for rough sleepers, with expanded crisis services, more social housing, safe night spaces, and a real commitment to ending homelessness. 💛

A city is only as strong as how it treats its most vulnerable, when one of us is suffering, we all are, it's time for understanding, care, and real vision.

If this matters to you, read item 12.2, go along to a session, or email your councillors before the 22nd to tell them what you'd like to see included in this plan.

Let's end homelessness in the City of Perth 🏛️

The Ordinary Council Meeting follows a week later on Wednesday, 30 September 2026 at 5pm.

If you can't attend either session in person, you can watch live or catch up later on YouTube 📺

In the City of Perth, some words and place names we use come from the Whadjuk Nyoongar (Noongar) language. 🖤💛❤️

Language is an important part of culture, connection and community, and has deep cultural significance to Whadjuk people. 🌏🤝

Why not add a few new words to your day, let’s learn a little Nyoongar! 🌿😊

👋 Kaya | Hello
🙋 Nguny kwell | My name is…
👋 Boorda | See you later

🌿 Some of the places we know and love also have traditional Nyoongar names:

🏙️ Perth | Boorloo
🌊 Swan River | Derbarl Yerrigan
🌳 Kings Park | Kaarta Koomba / Kaarta Gar-up

When I hear Boorloo, I often think of the Irish Gaelic word "Baile" which can mean home. 🏡

The words don’t mean the same thing, but I love the way a familiar sounds can make us think about the places we call home. 💚

And there is so much more to discover, every word we learn is an opportunity to build connection, show respect and celebrate the living Nyoongar language of south-west Western Australia. 🌿🖤💛❤️

Why not learn a word or two today? 🌱💚

Boorloo is blooming! 🌿

Spring has arrived and the city is beautiful today and a touch of warmth is bringing colour to our streets, parks and public spaces. ☀️

Boorloo is the Whadjuk Noongar name for Perth and the City of Perth.

A greener, more welcoming city for residents, workers and visitors is simple, I know, but it makes a real difference. 💚

A little more colour. 🌷
A little more life. 🌻

There are seven spots to see around the city 🌼 with more than 10,000 plants 🍃 brightening Stirling Gardens, Hay Street Mall, Murray Street Mall, Wellington Square, The Impossible Triangle, David Carr Memorial Park, Kings Park Road, Thomas Street, and Victoria Gardens. 🌱

The City of Perth is looking pretty good right now, a wonderful time to wander around take some photos and share some selfies! 🌸

I'll see you in the city. ❤️

Good news for the heart of the City of Perth with a new 30 storey apartment building is underway on Roe Street, near Northbridge and the Perth Arena, bringing 174 one & two bedroom rentals to the CBD. 🏗️

These new homes will be, 139 affordable and 35 social housing, putting more people close to jobs, transport and everything the city offers. ✨

This is a $100m+ state government project and it is due for completion in 2029. 💰

More people in the city means more customers for local businesses and more life on our streets, more homes, more people, plus the construction work and economic activity here while it's being built will be great too.

A positive step in the City of Perth ❤️

I found a flyer in the mailbox, not sure if it's from the City of Perth or from the Lord Mayor personally, or how long it's been sitting there, sometimes these mail outs hop from one letter box to the next in our buildings! 🦘

I like this one & it's good to see that a safer City of Perth remains a priority, with continued investment in City Watch, Rangers and CCTV, alongside plans for a greener city with arts, culture, events and more trees planted. 🌳

There's also a continued focus on cost of living pressures, giving back to neighbourhoods through grants, revitalisation and improved transport strategies.🚦

All important issues for our communities, from the city centre to the outskirts and worth watching over the next six months, to see what comes next for people of all ages and abilities. 🏙️

* Northbridge Revitalisation
* Supreme Court Gardens Revitalisation
* Attracting investment and new businesses into our city
* Making City of Perth cleaner and more welcoming

It says "the best days are ahead of us" which is nice, it's optimistic, just like spring time, read all about it here, along with a message from the Lord Mayor. 📢

Welcome to the neighbourhood, Pizza Hut - West Perth ... open until 10 pm, that's handy!

This is a copy and paste from the city's social media, hope it helps

With the next residential bulk verge collection taking place on Monday 14 September, do you know how to dispose of your unwanted items safely and correctly?

Before placing electrical items on the verge:
• Cut and remove all power cables.
• Where possible, remove batteries and take them to a battery drop-off location.

🔋 Batteries can be easily dropped off at one of the conveniently located battery recycling points, found through our Recycle mate tool: https://perth.wa.gov.au/residents/rubbish-waste-and-recycling

Help us keep our verges safe and make sure your waste is disposed of responsibly.

Empty carparks aren’t great for our neighbourhoods, left vacant and unsupervised, they bring problems of their own and we’re seeing this both east and west across the city.

Supermarkets are the better option. 🛒

Let’s hope West Perth gets a new supermarket soon, with more opening across the city.

Residents shouldn’t have to drive to the suburbs for food and essentials. 🏙️

If we want more residential density in the City of Perth, supermarkets and schools are foundational needs for individuals and families. 🏡

We also need a stronger night-time and weekend economy, reasons for people to visit and to keep coming back, because the city’s worth it. ✨

Elizabeth Quay is City of Perth’s postcard and there’s so much more to do and see in the city and neighbourhoods 🌸

Spring is a great time to explore and invite friends back into the city, come up and visit us at in West Perth for a wash and blow dry, a colour or a cut, then get out and explore!

West Perth has great cafés, public art, heritage and gardens 🌸, plus it’s close to Kings Park and the Kings Park Festival, 18 Sept–4 Oct 🎭

East Perth & Claisebrook 🌿 is all about the waterfront, wetlands and cafés 🎨

Northbridge it's edgy! has food, culture, music and nightlife and so many cool shops.

In Crawley go catch up and chill out with mates, walk the dog along the Swan River, stop by the Blue Boat House, grab a coffee

All around the CBD there are cool laneways with shopping, cafés and there's a bit of Lux shopping too!

As well as events and Yagan Square is not far away, there is so much you can get to using the CAT BUS & that's free too!

And when Friday nights get tasty again, one of my favourite things to do from 2 October is visit the Twilight Food Market at Forrest Place, it's on from 4:30 – 9:30pm every Friday through 30 April 2027.

It's free entry and there are often live buskers around along with some great shopping too all through the city centre.

So there’s loads to do, wildflowers, waterfront walks, food, art, live music and shopping!

Spring’s a great time to rediscover Perth ☀️

See you in the city 👣
