Although there are some people who get to earn a living working directly on climate through science, advocacy or education, the rest of us might wonder how our skills could ever apply, no matter how much we care. Turns out, anyone can work for climate!

Everyone’s Climate Series, returns to women’s leadership in When She Leads 2: How to Work for Climate, where you'll hear from five fascinating women who show up in very different roles, yet all work for climate.

WA just became Australia's third most attractive state for renewable investment - the biggest jump of any state this year - according to the 2026 Clean Energy Outlook released today by the Clean Energy Investor Group (CEIG).

Investors credit WA's South West Interconnected System (SWIS) Transmission Plan but they're clear on what remains to be done for WA to become a renewable energy investor location of choice: a Renewable Energy Target (RET).

The upside is clear: WA has world-class wind and solar resources and a strong project pipeline. A RET would turn that potential into delivered renewable energy generation, local jobs, and downward pressure on power bills. WA remains one of the only states in Australia without a RET.

To become a global energy leader, WA needs a strong RET - the policy 'green light' that tells investors our state is open for clean energy business, and workers and community that this is where the future of new jobs and energy security is for WA.

A Renewable Energy Target is a proven policy for accelerating the rollout of renewable energy, delivering cheaper, cleaner, reliable power. It will be WA’s roadmap for lowering emissions, driving a stronger, sustainable economy for all Western Australians.

These findings have been released as a broad alliance of investors, industry groups, unions, social service organisations, environment groups and community advocates unite to call on the WA Government to commit to a RET for WA’s main energy grid - our South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

We are calling on the WA Government to set a 2030 Renewable Energy Target (RET) - we are one of the only states in Australia without one!

A RET will deliver cheaper, cleaner and more reliable power for WA.

A RET is a proven government tool to accelerate renewable energy generation within an agreed timeframe. RETs have been successfully used by governments across Australia to hasten the transition to cleaner, reliable, and affordable energy.

Solutions for Climate WA has welcomed the Albanese and Cook Government-backed construction of 18 new community batteries that will harness WA’s rooftop solar generation and feed the energy into the grid during peak times.

The batteries will enable thousands of additional homes to pump renewable energy into the power grid by mid-2027.

This momentum needs to be locked into a long-term commitment for the state - an ambitious 2030 Renewable Energy Target (RET) for WA’s main grid.

WA has more sun and wind than anywhere else in Australia - yet we are one of the only states without a RET.

A RET will help secure WA’s energy future, lower power bills and help deliver cleaner energy to WA’s main grid.

Solutions for Climate WA has welcomed today’s announcement of federal investment in more than two gigawatts of new renewable energy and battery storage projects for Western Australia, saying the scale of federal capital now flowing into WA’s main grid makes the case for a formal Renewable Energy Target (RET) impossible to ignore.

In these uncertain times - amidst a fuel crisis - we’ve seen how solely relying on coal and gas has proven unreliable and introduced serious security risks. Now more than ever, implementing a RET could pave the way for a brighter, more secure future for Western Australians. By providing the business certainty needed, it would accelerate investment, drive faster progress, and ensure long-term stability for decades to come.

“We are really pleased to see the Albanese Government investing at scale in WA’s shift from coal and gas to renewables. Federal investment is flowing into WA because we have the wind and solar resources, the workforce and the project pipeline to deliver. A formal Renewable Energy Target would build on this by signalling to investors, businesses and the community that WA is serious about leading the clean energy transition,” said Solutions for Climate WA Director Jessica Panegyres.

“A 2030 Renewable Energy Target would bring our coal exit, the federal renewables target and the steady stream of new generation announcements into one clear public commitment. That kind of certainty is what private investors, businesses, workers and the community need to keep backing WA as a clean energy leader.”

“Western Australians want the Cook Government to commit to a strong 2030 Renewable Energy Target. This policy would give long-term certainty to investors, businesses, workers and the community. Renewables are really popular in Western Australia, and 73 per cent of West Australians backed a Renewable Energy Target in our most recent polling, with majority support across the political spectrum.”

“This is a conversation that is not going away, and we will keep working constructively with all levels of government to ensure WA community views are represented in delivering fairer tax policy.”

Talbot Mills polling released today by Solutions for Climate WA shows a majority of West Australians support a new federal tax on gas exports, with support strongest among men.

“West Australians understand the resources sector better than anyone in the country, and yet their clear message is that a fairer share of the benefits from our gas exports needs to flow back to households,” said Solutions for Climate WA Director Jess Panegyres. “This is not an east coast versus west coast issue. It is a fairness issue.”
