Wishing my beautiful nephew, Will, many congratulations on his 18th birthday. 🎉

We celebrated as a family with lunch at the Normanby Hotel on Sunday and he celebrated with his family and friends yesterday (12th…his birthday which he shared with his late great grand mother who would have been 94) ❤️

Will is one of those kids you can be proud to say he’s one of ours…kind, generous, compassionate, friendly, happy, hardworking, popular, tall and good looking 😃

I was asked to do a commission of a painting of him wearing his beloved Akubra hat. Will loves the beach having grown up doing nippers, life saving and surfing.

Under the Moroccan Sun…a beautiful memory of a long weekend in Marrakech in 2006.

Blows my mind to think it was 20 years ago 🤯

Started this new painting yesterday.

So far it’s shaping up quite nicely.

I travelled throughout Morocco in my early twenties during a 12 month ‘gap’ year. It was an intriguing place and one of my favourite countries to visit.

Years later I was fortunate to spend a long weekend as a guest at a swanky salmon pink mansion just out of Marrakesh. My friend’s friend was something to do with oil and he rented it for 3 months at something like £10,000 a week, so you can imagine the luxury.

I thought I’d use that memory of sitting poolside debating on laying in the sun or going for a swim for this piece and use a Moroccan/ Mediterranean colour palette and a less structured style…just for fun.

Btw the buildings in this painting don’t represent the swanky mansion lol 😉😆

There are moments that will stay with you forever.

For me, it’s the feeling of drifting beneath the water on a warm summer’s day. Looking up through the shimmering surface, watching the sunlight dance above, and hearing nothing but the muffled sounds of the world beyond.

Whether it was in the backyard pool, the ocean, a river or a lake, so many Australians have memories like this. Water has always been a part of life, and I wanted to capture that feeling of complete calm, freedom and escape.

This small 20x25cm acrylic painting became so special to me that I’m keeping it. But it’s also inspired me to create a much larger 50x60cm version, where I can really immerse the viewer in those beautiful blues, the filtered light and the peaceful stillness beneath the surface.

It’s another piece in my modern nostalgic Australia art collection, celebrating the everyday moments that become our fondest memories.

The Drovers

Cattle droving in Australia was the historical practice of moving massive herds “on the hoof” across vast, unfenced outback to reach markets, railheads, or new pastures. Known as “overlanders,” drovers lived entirely off the land, relying on supreme horsemanship, bushcraft, and working dogs to survive extreme weather and isolation….disclaimer: I googled this info for this post cos I’m on a train and wasn’t inspired enough to write it myself. I hope you’ll forgive me 😁

An Australian icon series isn’t complete without a nod to our surf life saving community.

For generations they’ve been part of our beaches, keeping people safe while becoming one of Australia’s most recognised symbols.

This little painting is a tribute to those red and yellow colours against the bluest of skies, and the beach culture so many of us grew up with.

Painted in acrylic on A4 325gsm watercolour paper, it’s another piece in my ongoing celebration of the people, places and memories that make Australia unique.

This painting is how I wanted to capture a quiet moment for a lone swimmer before the world wakes up.

This is a self portrait of my best side 😂

Jokes aside it is a personal little painting I did a while ago which I got around to finishing today.

It represents the passing of time. Am I looking to the future or looking back on the past. Doesn’t matter really, all is inevitable. It’s about who you spend time with and how well you live it.

I sit in a boat, sailing through my life. For the most part it’s been happy, bright and colourful. I have with me my favourite things…my dog, a horse - because horses were a big part of my life for a long while, books to read and of course paints and brushes.

This painting is gentle, serene, peaceful.

It’s a happy painting of a life well spent I think. It will find a home on a shelf in my house to remind me of what went before and, what lays ahead.

So so so stoked to receive a message this morning from the lovely people who bought this little artwork I did for Incognito Art Show.

The show opened in Sydney this weekend with thousands of art up for sale. So imagine my surprise to hear it has been sold so quickly.

The money for all sales is donated to charities that support disabled artists - a well worthy cause because, given the opportunity, we’re all artists at heart.
