I absolutely love seeing clients use their personal brand photos in the media.

Having a strong collection of high-quality, publisher-ready images makes it easier for journalists and editors to say YES. When an opportunity arises, you’re already media-ready—with professional images that help your story stand out and make an immediate impact.

These portraits of artist Rhiannon Hetherington from RMH ART were captured at the end of her feature exhibition at Creative Hearts Co.. With the gallery’s high ceilings and Rhiannon surrounded by her work, we were able to create something incredibly powerful.

And how striking does this image look in print? It certainly makes both Rhiannon and her artwork jump off the page.

Last year, Rhiannon launched If She Spoke, an exhibition sharing women’s stories of struggle, strength and resilience through art.

In 2027, If She Spoke: Stories from Struggle to Strength will return to the Brisbane Showgrounds, with Rhiannon inviting more women to share their stories and become part of this powerful project.

This is why personal brand photography matters. It isn’t only about having a beautiful profile photo—it’s about building a purposeful image library that helps you show up professionally, tell your story and be ready when the media comes calling.

Congratulations, Rhiannon. I can’t wait to see where you take If She Spoke next.

I’m often asked whether I specialise in photographing a particular industry. The simple answer is no.

I believe the strategy behind strong branding photography transcends industries. Every industry may have different things it needs to highlight, but a strong brand comes down to how consistently it shows up—and whether its personality, energy and values come through.

My approach is that no two strategies—and no two shoots—should ever be exactly the same.

Even when the premise is similar or I’m using the same location, the photographs should have a different energy. They should be approached from different angles and shaped around the brand in front of the camera.

Sometimes a particular location works for more than one client, and sometimes there are practical reasons to recreate a certain type of image. But the way the shoot is positioned—from the lighting, styling and composition to the posing, mood and storytelling—should always reflect the individual business and the people behind it.

While my editing style remains relatively consistent—true to colour, bold and punchy—everything else is led by the brand.

This shoot for Secrets of the East 🇦🇺 for Scarlett's new collection had a much more editorial, fashion-inspired feel. It needed to showcase the designs while bringing the mood and creative vision behind the collection to life. And it was photographed entirely in my garden.

For me, a location is never just a backdrop. I’m always looking for the pockets of light, interesting angles, natural textures and colour combinations that will complement the brand and bring the creative vision to life.

The same space can tell a completely different story depending on how it is framed, styled and photographed. That is part of the creative process—seeing the possibilities within a location and using them intentionally to create something that feels unique to the client.

Last year, I had the pleasure of meeting John George and Aneesh Thomas from Iconic Investing and creating a collection of personal brand portraits for them to use throughout their business.

One of the things I love most about working with business owners is seeing their growth—and watching them continue to invest in the brand they’re building.

I’m looking forward to reconnecting with John and Aneesh to plan their next branding shoot, creating fresh content that reflects where their business is going next and helping them continue sharing their message, knowledge and expertise with their clients.

When you invest in professional photography, you’re not only investing in the final images. Let’s face it—AI is becoming pretty damn good at creating polished pictures. But it can’t replicate the experience of backing yourself, stepping in front of the camera and showing up authentically as you.

The preparation, creative direction and experience of the shoot are all part of building your confidence and strengthening your brand. You’ve shown up. You’ve owned your story. And the photographs become evidence of that moment in your journey.

If your business has grown but your visual brand hasn’t kept pace, I think it's time for a chat.

Today I attended Stationery Aid ’s Wear Fluro event at ANFE Restaurant, celebrating the incredible impact Alison, Jan and the team have achieved in five years.

Stationery Aid collects excess school stationery, renews it and creates education packs for children experiencing disadvantage. With 97% of items reused or recycled, it is working towards zero waste to landfill by 2032.

It was inspiring to hear about its growth, including its partnership with Officeworks, a new facility planned for Bunya and its first flagship store opening next month at 39 Boundary Street, West End.

Keynote speaker Trent Dalton’s message about generosity and kindness resonated deeply. A stationery pack may seem small, but to a child it says:

You matter. You belong. You deserve the same opportunity to learn.

I’m proud to support Stationery Aid and help grow its presence across Ipswich and Greater Springfield.

If your school would like to become a collection point, organise a donation drive or fundraise, please send me a DM.

A massive congratulations to Linna Reakes and the OMR Property team for the launch of your beautiful new offices in Augustine Heights. Thank you for having Branding Profiles play such an exciting role on your brand elevation journey; photography, videography, marketing, branding... and also having Creative Hearts Co. and our artists be part of this beautiful space. Such a great launch event. Love having you in our community!

When we walked into this space, it was completely empty.

A blank room. A blank canvas. We got excited.

Ipswich Art Gallery had invited Small Business & Personal Branding Photographer to create a series of videos supporting the Expression of Interest for the Ipswich Community Gallery and Community Workshop spaces and suddenly we had this wide-open room to work with. No distractions. No existing story already built into the space. We get to decide how to use the light, where to position each artist and how much — or how little — we really needed in the frame.

Because these videos were never really about the room. They were about the people.

So we kept it simple. We let the space breathe, used the emptiness as part of the visual story and allowed some of the camera equipment to sit within the frame. It gave the videos that slightly raw, behind-the-scenes creative feel that suited the space — a place waiting for people to come in and make something of it.

The best part of this project was hearing from the artists themselves. Hearing what the experience had been like, what they had learned and what being given an opportunity to exhibit had meant to them.

We're really pleased with how the final series came together, and very grateful to Ipswich Art Gallery for trusting us to help tell these stories.

And if you’re an artist looking at the current Expression of Interest and wondering whether you’re “ready” — put yourself forward.

Sometimes you don’t feel ready first. Sometimes you just have to be brave enough to say yes to the opportunity.

The full video has now been shared by Ipswich Art Gallery and you can watch it here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1C2PRfxVTd/

A couple of months ago Branding Profiles was invited to create a series of videos for Ipswich Community Gallery + Art Workshop and we're excited to finally be able to reshare some of the brilliant content that was captured.

These are such wonderful spaces for artists and creators and as you can see, can be the catalyst that you need to take your creative practice to the next level. The best bit is, they are now open for applications...so please apply, what have you got to lose?

You can give a founder a framework, but you can’t script their story.

Yesterday was Day One of filming with Linna Reakes, creating two very different videos with two very different briefs — one for her personal brand, and one for the OMR Property brand. Both had a clear wireframe and direction, but neither was scripted.

That was very intentional. When you work with founders, their passion, values and personality tend to come spilling out when you give them the space to speak naturally. The best moments are often the ones you could never have written for them, because they come from lived experience, not a script.

I’m really loving the space that Branding Profiles is evolving into. Taking beautiful photographs and creating brand story videos is one part of the work, but the other part is helping our clients recognise and embrace the parts of themselves they sometimes think aren’t “professional” enough to share.

And yet, so often, those are the parts that matter most.

The humour, the emotion, the background, the hard seasons, the little quirks, the reason they started in the first place. Those are the things that create warmth, trust and connection. You can be polished and professional without stripping away the humanity that makes people want to know you.

For me, that’s where strong personal branding sits. It’s not about becoming a more polished business version of yourself. It’s about understanding what makes you different, what deserves to be seen, and having the confidence to own it.

Linna, thank you for trusting us with your story. Even amongst the chaos of an office build, trades, boxes and everything happening around us, we still captured the essence of your why.

Day One done, and there is so much more to come.

I used to believe that my work should speak for itself.

And for a long time, I was happy hiding behind the camera.

I loved sharing the photos, the results, and the transformations for my clients. But sharing my thoughts, experiences, or even my face? That felt much harder.

There was always that little voice asking:
"Who wants to hear what I have to say?"

Maybe you've felt that too.

What changed for me was realising that personal branding isn't about talking about yourself. It's about sharing what you've learned through your own experiences.

I've built businesses. I've struggled with confidence. I've learned how to become more visible. I've made mistakes, figured things out, and kept going.

No one else has lived that exact journey the way I have.

And the same goes for you.

Your experiences, your perspective, and the lessons you've learned are valuable because they're uniquely yours.

You don't have to share every detail of your personal life.

You don't have to become an influencer.

You simply have to ask yourself:
"Could what I've learned help someone else?"

When I started looking at it that way, showing up online stopped feeling like self-promotion.

It started feeling like service.

Because the people who need your help can't choose you if they don't know you exist.

So here's a little Friday thought:

✨ You don't have to share everything.
✨ You just have to share enough for people to understand who you are, what you stand for, and how you can help.

What's one lesson from your own journey that could help someone else today?

When I’m not wearing my photography and branding hat, I’m usually wearing my art gallery co-founder hat at Creative Hearts Co.

And this week, that hat came with an award. 🏆

Creative Hearts Co. won the Community Spirit Award at the Jordan Business Awards, and we’re pretty chuffed about it.

Community has been at the heart of what we’ve been building from day one — creating opportunities for local artists, bringing people together and making creativity more accessible in our little corner of the world.

Recognition makes it pretty cool. It means people noticed what we’ve been doing. People nominated us. People voted for us. And after 18 months of an enormous amount of work behind the scenes, this has given us more fuel to push even harder.

A massive thank you to Charis Mullen MP for creating the Jordan Business Awards and recognising the small businesses, organisations and people contributing to our community. And Milton Dick MP for championing it.

And to my fellow Creative Hearts Co. co-founders Marie Ferguson and Sean Ferguson — super proud of us!

It’s funny how the different parts of my working life keep overlapping. Branding, photography, art and community might look like separate hats, but for me they’ve always been about the same thing: Helping people be seen.

A huge thank you to Kylie Williams from KWP Studios for capturing these epic photos.

And a slightly surreal moment… walking the red carpet into the event and being greeted by a larger-than-life portrait of Charis Mullen MP on the event banner — a photo I took a few years ago and still one of my favourites.
