L King Photography
At L. King Photography, we believe every milestone deserves an editorial lens. Your honorable partner in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
We specialize in premium pet and portraiture, blending natural lighting with authentic storytelling to capture your legacy. It all started when my mom gifted me a simple point and shoot canon powershot. I was just a tour guide taking underwater photos for tourists at the time and it was a sad day, on one of my underwater adventure my camera cease to work. Since then I started under the tutorage of Paul Orchard back in 2010, and slowly mastered the art of pressing a button. What started out as a hobby has since grown into a passion of mine. From landscapes to animals and people, I find beauty in all things. I have now learned there is no mastering this evolving art form and I strive to keep up with this exciting world. My goal is to not just merely take a photo, but to create visually stunning art. I have just started this journey and look forward to the places it will take me. Please contact me for pricing and general information.
Sadie's senior gallery is finished, and it turned out even better than we hoped.
Last week we gave you a look behind the scenes. This week, here is the real thing.
We had golden hour sunlight planned for her session, but the sky had other ideas. What started as overcast clouds turned into this incredible cotton candy sunset, pink and purple over a field of sunflowers.
Through all of it, Sadie brought the warmth and energy that made this evening feel less like a shoot and more like a celebration of where she's headed next.
If your senior's session is still ahead of you, we would love to help you create something just as memorable. Send us a message, summer isn't over yet.
There's something special about a sunset that changes its mind halfway through a session.
We caught her senior session right at sunset, but the clouds had other plans. Instead of a clear golden hour, the sky turned into this incredible wash of cotton candy pink and purple over a field of sunflowers. Sadie made it easy, she was relaxed, confident, and genuinely herself in front of the camera the whole time.
This is the part of being a parent that goes by so fast, watching your kid stand on the edge of this next chapter. A session like this one is a way to hold onto that moment long after the school year ends.
I'm already excited to dig into this gallery and start editing. Keep an eye out, I'll be sharing more from Sadie's session next week.
If your senior is coming up, I'd love to talk about what a session like this could look like for them.

Summer twenty twenty six is coming to a close, and we cannot stop thinking about how special this season was. From golden hour senior portraits to family sessions full of real, unposed laughter, every single one of you made this feel like living inside an ethereal chapter book. Thank you does not feel like enough, but from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
As we look ahead to September, our calendar is almost completely full. We still have a handful of spots open for last minute senior portrait sessions, family sessions and everything that made this summer so good. If you have been thinking about booking, now is the time.
Send us a DM and let's find your spot before the calendar closes! We cannot wait to keep telling stories with you this fall. βοΈπ
We already showed you our favorites from John's farm session. This second batch is the one his mom and dad picked for themselves.
He is three now, full of personality, and his mom and dad went through the whole gallery themselves to choose their favorites. One of them catches him mid laugh, completely unposed, and it is the kind of photo that will mean more in ten years than it does today.
We already showed you our picks from this session. These are theirs. I love getting to see which frame a parent falls in love with, because it always tells me something about what they see when they look at their kid. πΏ
If you want a set of portraits that hold up like this one will, I would love to talk about booking a session for your family.
Instagram versus reality.
There's a running joke that social media only shows the highlight reel: the perfectly staged shot, the filtered light, the version of a moment someone wanted the world to see. Fair enough, sometimes it is.
But sometimes, real life shows up looking exactly like the photo. The sky spills into pink and purple over the water, the air holds that perfect stillness before dusk, and our two dogs are chasing the same ball into the waves like nothing else in the world matters. It was just the four of us, unposed and unbothered, exactly where we wanted to be. π
No staging. A cotton candy sunset that happened to be as beautiful in real life as it looks in the photo.

Today the National Park Service turns 110.
Sharing a few of our favorites from a trip we took to Grand Teton National Park. We took nothing but photos and left nothing but footsteps, and came home with memories we will cherish forever.
Places like the Tetons only exist for the next generation because people choose to protect them. That's worth celebrating today.
Happy birthday, National Park Service. Thank you for 110 years of keeping wild places wild. ποΈ

Today's my birthday, and I've been thinking about how lucky I am to get to do this work, in this city.
For years now, I've had a camera in my hands, capturing the real moments for families, pet parents, and individuals across Grand Rapids and West Michigan. Not the posed, stiff kind of photo. The real ones. The glance between a dad and his daughter, the way a dog leans into the person it loves, the smile that shows up right when someone forgets the camera is there.
I've always believed the job isn't just about pointing a lens at something pretty. It's about finding what's actually true about a person, a pet, or a place, and then making sure that gets captured before the moment passes.
I get to do that because of you and because of Grand Rapids. Every session I've booked, every family that trusted me with their kids, every pet parent who let me into their world, that's what's made this business what it is.
So today, on my birthday, I just want to say thank you, to this city and everyone in it who's been part of my story. Here's to another trip around the sun, and to all the moments still ahead. πβ¨
We wanted to show you something a little different this week: the moment versus the shot.
Earlier this summer we photographed a sport dog session, and if you've ever tried to photograph a fast moving dog, you know how hard it is to land a clean, sharp frame. It takes reading the dog's movement, anticipating the jump or turn before it happens, and firing at exactly the right split second.
This reel shows both sides side by side: the real, in the moment footage of us working the shoot, and the final portrait that came out of it. We think it's a good look at how much technical work goes into a photo that looks effortless.
If you've got a dog with energy to burn and want portraits that actually capture it, send us a message. We'd love to talk through what a session like this could look like for you.

Meet John. He's three, he's a little farm boy through and through, and he came to this session ready to just be himself and hang out at the farm, which honestly made for the best kind of session.
His family told us he loves being outside more than anything, so that's exactly where we went. We photographed him at the horse barn, behind the wheel of his very own John Deere tractor, getting nose to nose with his horse, and chasing bubbles at golden hour with his favorite farm friends, a whole crew of stuffed animals riding along for the evening.
This is the part of the job we love most. Not posed smiles, just a kid being fully, happily himself, and us getting to capture it. π
Full gallery from John's session coming soon. If you've got a free spirited three year old of your own, we'd love to hear what they're into these days.

Meet Entei, our youngest fur baby, soaking up every last drop of a summer beach day last year. πΎ
Full disclosure, he was the only one having any fun. The L King Photography team, meaning Lindsay and I, have spent the past few weeks buried in editing and prepping for some big shoots coming up this season.
So today we are pulling out this little flashback for a reason. Sometimes you need a reminder that the work is worth it, even on the Mondays that feel like they need to be dragged out of bed.
We are gearing up for some exciting new content and a peek behind the scenes as we head into the end of summer. Stay tuned, there is a lot coming. βοΈ
