What is the meaning of M15, M20, M10 concrete?
ANSWER :
M15, M20, and M10 refer to different grades of concrete, which are defined based on their compressive strength. The "M" stands for "Mix," and the number indicates the characteristic compressive strength of the concrete mix measured in megapascals (MPa) after 28 days of curing.
Hereβs a brief overview of each grade:
β M10 Concrete :
- Compressive Strength : 10 MPa
- Mix Ratio : Typically, a mix ratio of 1:3:6 (Cement: Sand: Aggregate) is used.
- Use : Suitable for low-strength applications like leveling courses, foundation pads, and non-load-bearing structures.
β M15 Concrete :
- Compressive Strength : 15 MPa
- Mix Ratio : A common mix ratio is 1:2:4.
- Use : Often used for plain concrete applications, such as pavements and in areas where low strength is acceptable.
β M20 Concrete :
- Compressive Strength : 20 MPa
- Mix Ratio : A typical mix ratio is 1:1.5:3.
- Use: Suitable for structural applications such as beams, slabs, and columns in residential and commercial buildings.

When does a beam become a column?
ANSWER :
One who hasn't conceptual knowledge for that, he will simply answer that if structure member's alignment orientation is horizontally then it's called beam and if orientation is vertical then it's called column.
But that doesn't work like that, if a structural member transfer any the load whichever is acting on it through bending then that element will be refer as beam.
And if structural element transfer the load through compression it will be called as column.
