đ§Ŧ DNA: The Blueprint of Life đ§Ŧ
Have you ever wondered why you resemble your parents, or how your body knows how to grow, repair itself, and function every day? The answer lies in DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid)âthe remarkable molecule that carries the genetic instructions for all living organisms.
DNA is often called the "Blueprint of Life" because it contains the information needed to build and maintain every living cell. Hidden inside almost every cell of our body, DNA determines many of our characteristics, including eye color, hair type, blood group, and even certain inherited traits.
đŦ What is DNA made of? DNA consists of tiny building blocks called nucleotides. Each nucleotide contains: âĸ A sugar molecule (Deoxyribose) âĸ A phosphate group âĸ A nitrogen base.
There are four nitrogen bases:
1. Adenine (A)
2. Thymine (T)
3. Cytosine (C)
4. Guanine (G)
These bases pair together (A-T and C-G) to form the famous double-helix structure discovered by scientists in the 1950s.
đ Why is DNA important? âī¸ Stores genetic information
đ§Ŧ Passes traits from parents to offspring
đ§Ŧ Directs cells to produce proteins
đ§Ŧ Controls growth, development, and body functions
đ§Ŧ Helps scientists understand diseases and evolution
đ Amazing DNA Facts ⨠More than 99.9% of human DNA is identical, making us incredibly similar despite our differences. ⨠Humans have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs) that carry DNA. ⨠If stretched out, the DNA inside a single human cell would be about 2 meters long. ⨠DNA can survive for thousands of years under suitable conditions, allowing scientists to study ancient organisms and human history.
