স্ট্রোক বা ব্রেন অ্যাটাক মস্তিষ্কে হঠাৎ করে রক্তপ্রবাহ বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়া বা মাথার ভেতরে রক্তক্ষরণের কারণে হয়ে থাকে। প্রতিটি মস্তিষ্কের কোষগুলিকে কাজ করা বন্ধ করতে বা মারা যেতে পারে। যখন মস্তিষ্কের স্নায়ু কোষগুলি মারা যায়, তখন তাদের নিয়ন্ত্রণ করা শরীরের অঙ্গগুলির কার্যকারিতা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয় বা হারিয়ে যায়।
