Before selecting a cable or circuit breaker, calculate the load correctly.
Single-phase load calculation is a fundamental skill for every electrical engineer, electrician, and technician. Accurate calculations help ensure the right cable size, protection, safety, and system reliability.
P = V × 1 × PF
I = P (V × PF)
S = V × I
PF = P + S
For a 230 V, 690 W connected load at PF = 0.90:
1=690 (230 × 0.90) = 3.33 A
:
Cable and breaker selection should not rely on load current alone. Consider starting current, voltage drop, ambient temperature, grouping, installation method, future expansion, and applicable IEC/NEC standards.

Have you ever wondered how a refrigerator or air conditioner keeps things cool? It all works through a simple but highly efficient Refrigeration Cycle.
🔄 Step-by-Step Process:
1️⃣ Compressor • Compresses low-pressure refrigerant v***r into high-pressure, high-temperature v***r.
2️⃣ Condenser Coil • Releases heat to the surrounding air. • The refrigerant changes from hot v***r to high-pressure liquid.
3️⃣ Filter-Drier • Removes moisture and impurities from the refrigerant to protect the system.
4️⃣ Capillary Tube (Expansion Device) • Reduces the refrigerant's pressure and temperature before it enters the ev***rator.
5️⃣ Ev***rator Coil • Absorbs heat from inside the refrigerator or room. • The refrigerant ev***rates into low-pressure v***r, creating the cooling effect.
🔁 The low-pressure v***r returns to the compressor, and the cycle repeats continuously.
💡 Key Principle: A refrigeration system doesn't create cold—it removes heat from one place and transfers it to another.
📚 Understanding this cycle is essential for students and professionals in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, HVAC, and Refrigeration Engineering.

When designing a substation, every meter of clearance has a purpose and every millimeter matters.
Electrical clearances are often seen as just dimensions on a drawing. In reality, they are among the most critical design parameters that determine the safety, reliability, and performance of a substation.
Every clearance serves a specific purpose:
• Phase-to-Phase Clearance
Prevents flashover between energized conductors.
• Phase-to-Earth Clearance
Protects against arcing to grounded structures and equipment.
• Phase-to-Ground Clearance
Ensures adequate insulation from foundations and the surrounding environment.
• Vertical Safety Distance
Provides sufficient working space for maintenance personnel to operate safely.
• Horizontal Safety Distance
Maintains safe separation from adjacent live equipment during inspection and maintenance activities.
As system voltage levels increase, the required clearances increase as well. Higher electric fields demand greater insulation distances to prevent dielectric breakdown and maintain operational security.
Good substation design is not about fitting equipment into the available space.
It is about providing the right clearances to safeguard insulation integrity, protect personnel, and ensure long-term system reliability.
In substation engineering, clearance is not unused space. It is a critical safety and reliability requirement.
