Ivan & Rudolf

Ivan & Rudolf is based on the true story of two Australian friends of today discovering that their great-uncles fought on opposite sides in WW1. A funny, engaging and poignant musical odyssey addressing the subject of the Great War through a contemporary perspective, an ode to the beauty of life and friendship to emphasize even more the tragedy and futility of war. This international co-production between Théâtre Maât (BE) and Theater Kontra-Punkt (D) stages 13 actor/singer/musicians and a choir of more than 20 singers. The action constantly switches from the time of Ivan & Rudolf, who both died on the Western Front in 1916, and today’s bicycle pilgrimage of their grand-nephews Ben & Adam on the battlefields. More than twenty original songs and musical pieces lead the audience through different styles, going from French style songs, accents of Brecht, jazz, rock and blues.
