DigiGyel: Building AI-Ready Youth and Schools — Second Batch of Teacher Training Begins!
We have officially begun training our second batch of educators under the DigiGyel Project at Changangkha Middle Secondary School in Thimphu.
This incoming cohort brings together 53 primary and secondary teachers, school leaders, and ICT focal persons representing various Dzongkhags and Thromdes across Bhutan, all stepping forward to prepare their classrooms for a rapidly evolving technological future.
The three-year DigiGyel: Building AI-Ready Youth and Schools (2026–2028) project is led by the VTOB Foundation in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD). Funded by The Dariu Foundation with additional support from the Beat and Regula Curti Foundation, the initiative builds on the foundational work of the earlier Digital Literacy Initiative (2022–2025). The goal is to successfully transition Bhutanese schools from basic computing skills into the practical application and understanding of Artificial Intelligence.
The first day focused heavily on orientation, setting key expectations, and mapping out the weekly schedule. During the initial “AI and Me” breakout circles, the 53 participants worked in groups to discuss their current familiarity with digital tools, share their expectations for the training, and explore how AI can be safely integrated into local classrooms. The training then moved smoothly into hands-on sessions covering foundational AI architecture and core concepts.
This marks another important milestone in ensuring our educators are fully equipped with the competencies and practical skills needed to confidently guide the next generation.
A sincere thank you to The Dariu Foundation and the Beat and Regula Curti Foundation for funding this vision, and to MoESD for their continuous partnership and guidance. 🙏

🇧🇹 DigiGyel: Building AI-Ready Youth and Schools — Teacher Training Begins!
On 4th July 2025, we kicked off the first cohort of teacher training for the DigiGyel Project at Changangkha Middle Secondary School, Thimphu.
47 teachers — primary and secondary educators, ICT focal teachers, and school leaders — gathered from Dzongkhags and Thromdes across Bhutan to begin a journey that matters deeply for the future of our classrooms and our country.
DigiGyel: Building AI-Ready Youth and Schools (2026–2028) is a three-year initiative led by the VTOB Foundation, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD). Funded by The Dariu Foundation, with additional support from the Beat and Regula Curti Foundation, it builds directly on the Digital Literacy Initiative (2022–2025) — supporting the transition for Bhutanese schools from basic computer skills into the world of Artificial Intelligence. Over three years, this project will train 600 teachers across 500 + schools, establish AI Clubs, equip schools with 810 laptops, and ultimately reach 50,000 students with foundational AI literacy.
The day opened with orientation by our resource persons — Mr. Mani Wangdi, Mr. Thinley, and Mr. Sonam Tshering — who walked participants through the training objectives and weekly schedule. The “AI and Me” session followed, where teachers worked in groups to share their current experiences with technology, their hopes for the course, and their ideas on bringing AI into Bhutanese classrooms. The afternoon moved into hands-on foundational AI sessions.
The goal is simple and urgent: ensure Bhutan’s next generation understands AI — not just as users, but as thinkers, problem-solvers, and creators.
A heartfelt thank you to The Dariu Foundation and the Beat and Regula Curti Foundation for funding this vision, and to MoESD for their support and guidance in making it happen. 🙏

💻 DigiGyel Project Management System 🌐
🎊 Official Launch: Wednesday, 24 June 2026 🎉
VTOB Foundation gladly announces the official launch of the DigiGyel Project App— a purpose-built digital platform designed to track, manage, and publicly report on the progress of the DigiGyel Project across Bhutan.
DigiGyel is a three-year initiative (2026–2028) led by VTOB Foundation with funding from The Dariu Foundation and in close consultation with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), designed to introduce AI literacy into 600 schools across Bhutan, train 600 teachers (one per school), and equip over 50,000 students with foundational AI knowledge and practical skills.
The DigiGyel App provides a single, transparent window into every dimension of the project — from training sessions completed and deliverables tracked, monthly reporting — all accessible through a clean, professional, mobile-responsive public dashboard. This platform represents a significant step forward in how development projects communicate their progress to funding partners, government stakeholders, and the public.
Development projects often struggle with the gap between what is happening on the ground and what funding partners and government counterparts can see. Reports are produced quarterly or annually, and by the time they reach decision-makers, the data is already weeks or months old.
The DigiGyel PMS closes that gap. It provides a living, continuously updated view of the project — not a static document, but a dynamic platform where progress is visible in real time. For The Dariu Foundation, this means direct visibility into how funds are being utilised and what outcomes are being achieved. For MoESD, this means a transparent record of training delivery, school coverage, and teacher capacity building across the country.
The DigiGyel PMS is live and accessible to anyone with an internet connection: https://digigyel-pms.vercel.app
For enquiries about the DigiGyel project or the DigiGyel PMS platform, please contact VTOB Foundation via [email protected]
VTOB extends our heartfelt gratitude to The Dariu Foundation, MoESD, all stakeholders and well wishers for your continued trust and support. We assure to be more and do more…

Official Report
VTOB Launches "DigiGyel: Building AI-Ready Youth and Schools” A humble Leap into Bhutan’s AI-Driven Educational Future
Following the success of its four-year Digital Literacy Initiative (DLI), VTOB Foundation is humbled and excited to announce the official launch of its successional initiative : DigiGyel: Building AI-Ready Youth and Schools. This innovative three-year project (2026–2028) represents a pivotal shift from foundational coding to advanced Artificial Intelligence, ensuring Bhutanese students remain at the forefront of global technological innovation.
A Legacy of Impact: From DLI to DigiGyel
between 2022 and 2025, VTOB Foundation contributed in transformation of the digital landscape of Bhutanese education. The initial DLI project, supported by the Dariu Foundation and the Regula and Beat Curti Foundation, evolved from a modest 8-school pilot into a national cornerstone that reached 68 schools and empowered 25,478 students. By distributing 800 laptops and 310 Micro:bit devices, VTOB was privileged with an opportunity to play a pivotal role to build the "digital backbone" of these institutions, fostering a culture of digital confidence and hands-on problem-solving. With support from MoESD, VTOB implemented the initiative successfully.
The DigiGyel Vision: Empowering the AI Generation
"DigiGyel" symbolizing "Nation" and "Victory" is VTOB’s response to the rapidly evolving global workforce. DigiGyel is a specialized initiative led by the VTOB Foundation to bridge the gap in advanced digital competencies with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) providing essential administrative guidance and infrastructure support.
Over the next three years, DigiGyel will:
● Impact 150 schools across the nation as direct beneficiary schools.
● Build Capacity by training 300 educators through specialized AI Teacher Training Workshops.
● Empower Students by equipping approximately 50,000 students with foundational knowledge in machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing.
● Infrastructure Support through distribution of 810 high-performance laptops for free to beneficiary schools to ensure equitable access.
● Foster Innovation by establishing 150 student-led AI Clubs and host annual National AI Expos to showcase youth-driven solutions.
Building the Future, Together
The DigiGyel project is not merely about hardware; it is about creating a sustainable ecosystem where technology becomes a tool for social innovation and ethical digital citizenship. This initiative is made possible through the continued generous financial and technical partnership of The Dariu Foundation and the Regula and Beat Curti Foundation.
“AI is developing rapidly. It will have a strong influence on everybody in this world. So it’s evident that young people, children should learn to use AI at an early age already, we hope to bring technology teaching skills to the countryside so that those children in the countryside have the same chance as all the other children,” said Thomas Trub, the founder/president of the Dariu Foundation.
DigiGyel is about opportunity, empowerment, and shaping a nation that is ready to lead in an AI-driven world shaping the future.
-VTOB Foundation is an aspiring non-profit community-based organization dedicated to nurturing "SMART Active Citizens" through innovative educational engagements that complement Bhutan’s national vision. VTOB stands for Volunteers Strength.
We thank to MoESD for the unwavering support and guidance and The Dariu Foundation for their continued trust and empowerment.
VTOB extends our gratitude to all our partners, schools, teachers, students and well wishers.
