Choosing the right bedding material means looking beyond the price tag. 🎯
In his latest article for Ag Proud, inBarn’s Dan Veeneman examines the bigger picture, including cow comfort, udder health, labour requirements, manure-system compatibility and total cost of ownership.
Deep-bedded sand can be difficult to beat when it is managed correctly, but no bedding material succeeds on its own. The best system is the one that fits the farm’s people, facilities and daily routines and can be maintained consistently. 🤔
Read the full article:
Choosing the right bedding material: Looking beyond the price tag The real question is not “What is the best bedding material?” The better question is “Which bedding system fits our farm’s management style, facilities and labour – and which one will we maintain correctly every day?”

A fascinating conversation about the evolution of the free stall system. 🐮
John de Jonge has over 30 years experience in the dairy industry and a track record of pushing cow comfort forward around the world.
John and Paul talk about why a freestall system was needed, how it was developed, and the future of cow comfort in industries who still are adopting this "new to them" system.
You'll also learn a little bit about John's personal journey, the lessons he learned on his family dairy farm, and how those lessons have persisted throughout his career in the dairy manufacturing business.
A fascinating breakdown of the evolution of the modern systems we see today.
A must watch! 😎

We were proud to take part in the Grazing on the Greens golf event in Dell Rapids!
A great event, with great people, and some of the best jerky in the state. (maybe in the country) 😉
Thanks to Central Plains Dairy Expo for another great event!
It's all about the finer details.

Start where it’s hottest. Start where it’s simplest. 🐄☀️
The holding pen is often the hottest area on the dairy farm. With high cow density, limited airflow, and cows waiting before milking, it’s a critical place to reduce heat stress.
The good news? It’s also one of the most cost-effective places to start cooling cows.
Research shows that proper holding-pen cooling can deliver measurable results:
✅ 1.9°C (3.5°F) drop in body temperature when cows are cooled before milking
✅ +0.8 kg (1.7 lb) more milk per cow per day with holding-pen cooling
✅ +2.3 kg (5 lb) more milk per cow per day when cows are cooled 30 minutes, 5 times per day
Cooling cows doesn’t have to start with a complete barn redesign.
Sometimes, the biggest impact comes from targeting the hottest moments of the day — when cows need relief the most.
Cool cows. Protect production. Start with the holding pen. 💪

Every meter per second matters. 💪
A fan doesn't cool cows, the right airspeed does. 🤓
At inBarn, we engineer ventilation strategies that deliver optimal airspeed where it matters most: at cow level. Every detail, from fan placement to airflow design, is planned to create an environment where cows stay comfortable, healthy, and productive. 🐮
We dial in airspeed at the feedlane, above the stalls (where you cows recover and rest) and at the ends of the barns for optimal efficiency and performance.
Airspeed matters.✅ Strategy matters.✅ Details matter. ✅
