We are beyond thrilled with how this cedar timber-framed gazebo is turning out in Calgary. We’ve been so busy working away we haven’t been posting much about it the past few weeks. But there are many details to share from the concrete pad and walkways, to the beams and roof, and we will have all those details coming. There is still so much to do too! We are almost finished with our framing and next will be rough-ins for electrical, retractable screens, metal roof, new waterfall, fire table and so much more! Stay tuned!

It is very exciting to see the components of this gazebo come together. These rough-cut cedar beams are incredible and we cannot wait to frame up this gazebo, see the retractable screens installed and see the whole project come together.

We had quite the visitor on site today in Arbour Lake!

As concrete is being poured for the footings, floor and walkways, we are beginning to prep the boards and wood for this upcoming gazebo build. Up first, we stained these 1x6 tongue and groove hemlock boards for the ceiling, purchased from Cedar Shop Building Materials. Cedar boards would have been nice, but three times the price. These hemlock boards with stain are going to look beautiful. We were really impressed with the Olympic Easy Seal stain we used. The only friendly warning is some of the boards needed more like 48-72 hours to dry, as opposed to the 24 hours stated in the instructions. Up@next we are picking up our framing wood and will begin staining that.

We got to do a small job at the excellent Signal Signs & Graphix Inc. building a platform above one of their containers, to make space for future workspace. We enjoyed our couple days there. The owner and staff are great people and they make a huge variety of signs for a variety of businesses and organizations.

This week we began a new phase of this large outdoor renovation project we began last fall. We are installing a 14’ by 14’ gazebo that will be framed with dimensional lumber and rough-cut 8x8 posts and wrapped with cedar. It’s a very exciting project. The ceiling will feature 1x6 tongue and groove hemlock, with pot lights. We will be installing retractable screens from SUNCOAST ENCLOSURES on all sides of the gazebo and running a gas line for a propane fire table.

The project kicked off with Upper Deck coming in to scrape the sod from the lawn and dig a trench for our gas and electrical lines.

Like all larger projects, just getting to this beginning took a lot of work!

How to Build a Home Spa – Episode 7 | Sauna Installation

In this 7th episode of “How To Build A Home Spa”, we look at what it took to transform our client’s storage room into a gorgeous sauna. We did all of the prep work for this sauna such as framing, getting set for rough-ins and we installed the heated tile floor. We subcontracted the sauna build to the excellent SaunaBuilder 🔥 Saunas | Cold Plunge | Sauna Kits 📍 Calgary, AB and the glass door installation to Glass Pro Install. This storage room also had a little nook, which we transformed into a “get-ready-to-sauna” area with a cedar bench and custom-built shelves. We LOVE how this space turned out! There was so much focus on detail and excellence in every inch.
