LIC Admin Team

Reminder: This PUBLIC group of 42 000 members exists exclusively to help people find answers to Cochrane-relevant questions and to ensure emergency information can be shared quickly. Because the group is public and accessible to anyone on the internet, we face dozens of spam and bot attacks daily. This is why we turn off comments on posts that are overly active and unproductive ie; gas rants, political debates etc

Living in Cochrane averages 100 posts and 600 comments a day. To keep the feed useful for Cochrane residents, prevent spam, screen housing and job ads, and stop the unsafe sharing of personal information, we strictly enforce our group rules.

While we occasionally make mistakes or allow rare exceptions, post removals are always based on these rules; never personal or political motives. Sometimes the post/comment isn't black&white, and the admin team may allow it. Keep in mind that Admin Asst is activated in this group, sometimes the administrative action is done by AI

FYI - The nickname feature has been removed, thank-you FB

Before posting, ensure your content meets these guidelines:

Relevant & Beneficial: Your post must directly pertain to and benefit the local Cochrane community. Irrelevant posts will be removed.
Keep It Concise: Keep your posts brief—members and admins rarely read long essays.

Ask the Right Questions: Look for local recommendations, insights, or community guidance. Questions with basic facts that can easily be searched online (like business hours or store addresses) should be looked up on Google first.

Safe & Respectful: We have zero tolerance for hate speech, racism, bullying, or sharing private personal information.

Keep it Local: ask for guidance from local people and businesses. We will delete all posts and comments from businesses that are not local to Cochrane or RVC.

If your post was removed: Re-read it objectively. Clear up any confusion, reword your text, and try submitting it again.

Note: Attacking admins, sending abusive direct messages, or posting public rants about a removed post will result in an immediate ban. LIC is not a fight club; respect one another, the group rules, and the admin team.

And remember the Fishing Posts are excluded from the rules. We create Fishing posts so we can find and block the BOT’s. We appreciate and enjoy the engagement from members.

Hello Cochrane, With a potentially busy news cycle approaching, we're sharing a quick reminder of our posting guidelines to ensure this large group remains manageable and focused.

We will continue to allow posts that fall under these two categories:
🌻 EVENTS (Local happenings, meetings, etc.)
🌻 ANNOUNCEMENTS from OFFICIAL pages

The comments must be turned OFF by the poster, or the Admin Team.

Our community is now too large to effectively moderate the contentious conversations that often develop in the comments section.
This ensures we can:
1) Share valuable information that affects all Albertans.
2) Maintain a focused, positive, and constructive community feed for everyone.

Thank you for helping us keep this group kind, helpful, and informative.
