We’re pleased to welcome Braedon Brearley and Tanita Cherian to TKA+D.

Braedon joins us as a Senior Technologist, bringing extensive experience in technical design, detailing, specifications, project coordination, building science, enclosure design, and constructability. His background includes major heritage conservation work in Canada’s National Capital Region, as well as building-envelope consulting and construction administration in the Pacific Northwest.

Tanita joins TKA+D as an Intern Architect AIBC. She began her career as an architectural technologist in 2015, contributing to residential and mixed-use projects across the Lower Mainland before completing her Master of Architecture at the University of Calgary in 2024. She is excited to continue growing across project typologies, sustainable design, and project delivery.

Both Braedon and Tanita bring curiosity, technical strength, and a collaborative spirit to the studio. We’re excited to have them on the team — welcome, Braedon and Tanita!

Last Friday, the TKA+D team visited 908 Raymur for a site tour, a great chance to see the project taking shape beyond the drawings.
908 Raymur is an office and industrial development designed to support Tesla’s operations, bringing workplace, service, and industrial functions together within a purpose-built facility in Vancouver’s Raymur area.
There’s no substitute for walking the site: understanding scale, material decisions, construction sequencing, and the little details that only become clear in person.
Thanks to p f k and everyone who helped make the visit happen and to the project team for sharing the work behind it.

Big things are happening inside a building we helped bring to life!

The Vancouver Sun recently featured the opening of the world’s largest EV battery repurposing megafactory in Metro Vancouver — a major step in advancing circular-economy infrastructure and clean technology in the region.

TKA+D was proud to serve as architect for the base building of this project, creating the architectural foundation for a facility now supporting innovation in battery reuse, resource recovery, and the future of sustainable industry.

Congratulations to the project team and everyone involved in bringing this important facility online.

Last Friday, the TKA+D team joined Stanley Park Ecology for a hands-on stewardship tour in one of Vancouver’s most treasured urban forests.

Together, we removed approximately 5–6 cubic metres of invasive English ivy, helping support habitat restoration and the return of healthier native ecosystems.

The afternoon was a meaningful reminder that stewardship is practical, physical, and collective. A big thank you to Stanley Park Ecology for guiding the team, sharing knowledge about local ecosystems, and giving us the opportunity to contribute directly to conservation efforts in Stanley Park.

TKA+D is pleased to welcome back Anson Pao as our Summer Student Intern.

Anson previously joined us for a BCIT work practicum, and this summer she’s returning for a deeper, more hands-on look at architectural practice. She’s especially looking forward to exploring different project types, learning how projects develop through different stages, and continuing to build her understanding of the design process.

Anson describes her design interests in three words:
Sustainable. Harmonious. Practical.

Anson is drawn to architecture that creates a sense of place — spaces that do more than function well, and instead create experiences, emotions, and meaningful connections for the people who use them. Recently, she has been inspired by Japanese and Asian architecture, including Kengo Kuma’s use of layering, materiality, and “negative architecture.”

Outside of work and school, Anson recharges through hiking, café hopping with friends, painting landscapes, and playing tennis.

We’re excited to have Anson back with us this summer, and look forward to seeing her curiosity and design perspective continue to grow.

Recently, the TKA+D team embarked on an insightful site tour of three of our Coquitlam projects:

Fraser Mills Business Centre by Beedie : A premier industrial strata development featuring durable tilt-up concrete construction, expansive 28-foot clear heights, and flexible layouts to support diverse industrial and commercial uses.

Elevate by Wesgroup Properties : A multi-storey development offering stacked industrial and office spaces, with large double-volume industrial bays, prime office spaces with expansive glazing, and upper-level units ideal for light-industrial users.

Maillardville Community Centre City of Coquitlam : A vibrant hub offering versatile spaces for recreational and community programs in the heart of Maillardville.

On-site insights from our Project Principals and Project Managers enriched our understanding and collaboration, enabling us to create better spaces for our clients and communities.

TKA+D is celebrating Earth Day with exciting news: our 150 W 4th Ave project has achieved LEED Gold Certification! This milestone highlights our commitment to creating resilient, sustainable spaces—even for energy-intensive laboratory and office environments.

LEED Gold:

Independent review confirmed the project’s outstanding performance across the LEED V4 framework—scoring 63 points—with achievements such as:

52.2% improvement over energy cost baselines, through efficient HVAC, envelope, and daylighting strategies, as well as green power procurement. This results in predicted savings of over $70,000 per year and a very low energy use intensity for such a demanding program. [TEUI 162.6 | TEDI 50.5 kWh/m²/yr | GHGI 6.7 kgCO₂e/m²/yr | Infiltration rate 0.17 L/s*m2].

Over 90% reduction in outdoor water use, through drought-tolerant native landscaping and a state-of-the-art passive rainwater harvesting system.

77% construction waste diversion from landfills and more than 30 qualifying products sourced for environmental and material health transparency.

Highest standards in indoor air quality and daylight access: healthy, comfortable spaces are foundational to the building’s performance and occupant well-being.

Blue/Green Roof: A Regional Standout

As one of the first “blue/green roofs” in the region, this system is more than standard green—it collects and stores rainwater under extensive plantings, delivering passive irrigation, pollinator habitat, insulation, and visible biophilic benefits to occupants. The 70,000L “blue/green roof” storage relieves city infrastructure, reduces urban heat, and supports biodiversity, contributing to a truly multifunctional and resilient urban amenity.

On this Earth Day, it’s worth noting that neglecting Vancouver's Integrated Rainwater Management Plan (IRMP) would likely lead to costly problems such as sewage contamination, basement flooding, and stress on aging infrastructure. Projects like 150 W 4th Ave show what’s possible with focused collaboration, innovation, and designs focused on Health + Wellness, Resilience, and Decarbonization at every scale.
