Our final tomato harvest of 2026! It was the year of sauce! Our freezer along with some other freezers in the community are filled with sauce thanks to our harvest this year. ❤️ thank you Mother Nature for your bounty!
In the coming weeks as we close our gardens, we feel thankful for all that Mother Nature has provided us this summer.

A winged friend decided to stop by and say Hi! They have been eating well this summer!

It’s garlic time!! We are a bit late getting our garlic to market this year but with the wet humid summer we wanted to make sure the garlic was nice and dry before it went into anyone’s storage. Rushing the processing can result in your garlic going bad over the winter.
What an exciting year for garlic! This is one of our pride and joy crops and each year it gets better and better! It’s so good that we are typically close to sold out before the garlic even comes out of the ground!
If you haven’t gotten a message that your garlic is ready, please send us a message ASAP as we will be posting a very limited supply as available in the next few days.

And with that, we happily say goodbye to the 2026 hay season.
We were luckier than most this year. This is the second year in a row that we are going to see a hay shortage, and the reality of that is becoming increasingly difficult for many livestock owners.
The 2024 stores in mows are long gone. The 2025 stores are scarce. And 2026 proved to be a horrendous year for hay. Many producers still have not gotten their first cut off, with fields continuing to sit underwater.
Then there is the cost of actually making hay. With rising diesel prices, it can cost around $450 just to put the tractor to work and get into the field. That does not include twine, labour, maintenance of equipment.
I receive 3 to 5 messages a day from people looking for hay. Some come with stories and photos of elderly horses who desperately need a specific, soft second cut because they can no longer chew a coarser first cut.
Ontario has not historically experienced hay shortages to the same extent as areas out west. Many people here have never experienced a true shortage, where farms are forced to ship livestock across the country to auction because they simply cannot feed them.
That is exactly how I acquired my childhood horse from a top breeding farm in Saskatchewan over 20 years ago for bottom dollar because it was either ship or starve.
While we are incredibly happy and grateful that we were successful in getting two beautiful cuts off this year despite the challenging conditions, we know that not everyone has been so lucky.
So, we want to share a little bit of wisdom we have gathered over the years.
When hay is tough to find, there is no room to be picky. Take what you can get and supplement where you can. Prices will be higher this year. Hay is not an easy crop to produce, and the current political and economic climate does not make it any easier.
This is the year to lean on your multidisciplinary team. Nutritionists, veterinarians, farriers and other allied health professionals can all help you figure out how to make the best of a difficult situation and optimize what you have available.
Above all, we wish everyone the best of luck this winter. We hope that bellies stay full, livestock stay healthy, and everyone is able to find what they need.
Here’s to praying for a good 2027 hay season and a chance to rebuild those stores.

We support our fellow farmers and producers! Especially in moments of kindness!
Get in on an act of kindness that Windswept Moonlight Farm has provided the community for years. ❤️

It’s that time of year again… it’s FAIR SEASON!
We have a busy month ahead, with 10 days of showing over the next 4 weeks! Believe it or not, we’ve already been showing for the past 4 weeks, including two local fairs. This is our final weekend off before the final push!
It is so important to support these local gems. We are seeing local fairs across the province struggle and, in some cases, disappear altogether. We refuse to see that happen here, and we’re doing our part by entering as many classes as we can!
We’re planning to show in 100+ classes over the next 4 weeks and are so excited to be competing in a variety of disciplines, even when they aren’t necessarily our specialty. Why? Because why not?!
So many of these fairs are incredibly welcoming and offer awesome opportunities to expose your pony to different environments, try new things, and gain experience without the pressure of a traditional show environment. We love getting out, supporting our local communities, and letting the ponies experience a little bit of everything.
We are so excited to announce our 2026 Fair Tour!
July 26 — Pakenham Fair — COMPLETE
August 15 — South Mountain Fair — COMPLETE
September 5–6 — Perth Fair
September 11 — Renfrew Fair
September 12 — Almonte Fair
September 13 — Renfrew Fair
September 18 — Richmond Fair Breed Expo
September 19 — Richmond Fair
September 20 — Richmond Fair
September 25 — Carp Fair
September 26 — Carp Fair
We have followers from all over the Ottawa region and beyond, so we encourage you to get out and support these local events whenever you can!
And if you see us, come say hi! Sparky and Hank will be running the circuit this year, and we’d love to see some familiar faces along the way.
Here’s to a busy, slightly chaotic, pony-filled fair season!

I will never know what people have against jumbo zucchinis… 🤤
What’s your favourite stuffed zucchini recipe?!
This one is a curry stuffed zucchini… spoon for size. It’s not apart of the recipe 😉
Did you know horses like cucumbers?! When we start swimming in cucumbers and find some overripe ones on the farm, the ponies get their nightly cucumber snack. ❤️🥒

When your husband asks if we have any tomatoes… yeah! Here’s a 5 gallon pail of 1+ pounders 🫠
Our ‘pink and dark’ tomatoes (don’t ask us the real variety… we have no clue) are one of our favourite meaty and jumbo tomatoes! We use them for sauce and for the best tomato sandwiches! 🤤
Give us a shout if you have a hankering for a toasted tomato sandwich! We have you covered!

Moving up in the world! Our first farm stand, which served us so well for the last five years, has officially been retired. We built our new one with our own two hands, and we couldn’t be more excited to see it become part of the farm.
We’re looking forward to growing our offerings and continuing to expand our ability to help feed and provide for our community.
There has been some talk in the community about farms and homesteads competing against one another, but that’s never how we see it. We believe in raising our fellow farmers and producers up. In a food desert, there is never too much food and there are never too many people growing it. We need as many local producers as possible to keep our communities fed.
Our goal is to have the new stand in full swing next year, but this fall we’ll still be putting out our usual offerings, along with a few special items.
Here’s to growing, building, and supporting one another along the way. ❤️
If anyone would be interested in our old farm stand with secure money box, we have it for sale for $100. It will make you way more than that!
