It works against you đ„č
I never use the concept of âstaying calmâ lightly because I know first hand how truly hard it is. Staying calm when WE see fighting as an emergency makes our brain go into fight, flight and freeze too.
Staying calm during sibling conflict (or any misbehaviour) takes practice, new tools and a real plan.
I would love to give you my 3 step action plan so you know which fights to get involved in, which ones to leave alone, and when to teach your kids the skills and lessons they need.

You donât need them
I know it might not make sense. You are likely thinking things like:
âIf I donât give a consequence, my kids wonât learnâ
âTheyâll just bully their siblingâ
âThis sounds permissiveâ
âThe real world has consequences, I need them tooâ
Itâs common to have these thoughts and ideas, especially when weâve always been shown to parent in this one way. And itâs all we have been modelled.
The truth is though: there are SO many reasons that using negative punishments and consequences (like taking things away from your kids) donât work for sibling conflict.
And you 100% CAN teach your kids to be good to their sibling, solve their own conflict and be great humans without negative experiences.
â€Is it harder? Yes. Is it more effective and creates long term change and a solid relationship between your kids? YES!

Hey friend đđ»â€ïž
Letâs get acquainted, shall we?
Iâm Colleen! I live in Alberta Canada with my husband and 2 kiddos. (and our bearded dragon Higo!)
I am a Mom, through and through. I love spending time with my kids (until I get overstimulated by noise and need everyone to leave me alone đŹ)
I spent 7 years as a travel agent and spent 8 years after that travelling with my husband when we were dual income with no kids! I have been to Mexico at least 15 times, Belize, Jamaica, Hawaii, Brazil, Vietnam, Australia, Egypt, and ParisâŠto name a few đ)
But these days I spend my vacation time in Arizona, Disneyland (obsessed!) or British Columbia.
My go-to take out order is sushi or Vietnamese.
I have never had a cup of coffee or cigarette in my life đČ (I know).
Fun fact: I gave birth to our daughter on the kitchen floor (no, it wasnât planned and my husband and 2 year old were the only ones home).
I am now obsessed with helping parents deal with sibling fights, discipline and misbehaviour so they can enjoy their time with their kids.
YOUR turn! Tell me your fun fact, what youâve never done in your life, or your go-to take out order. đ„°
Is this normal?
I think a lot of parents are secretly wondering if the fighting in their house is normal sibling fights or something more.
Often parents will say to me âI mean, maybe this is normalâŠ?â đ
And to this I say Yes AND No
Yes đ Siblings fight a lot! It is very common of course. Siblings are in the perfect situation to fight. They are with each other all the time as they have massive feelings and learn about the world.
No â It doesnât have to be YOUR ânormalâ to deal with constant bickering, fighting, pushing each otherâs buttons or getting physical.
There are LOTS of things you can do about sibling fighting so that it doesnât just stay your normal.
Welcome to my page, đââïžwhere I share tips and strategies for dealing with sibling fights.

You donât need to know
Truly, you donât need to know which child is in the wrong. You dont need to know who hit who, who had the toy first, who did what.
Amazing, right?
You can help your kids deal with the fight, learn new skills and fight less over time without being the referee at all.
Itâs what I teach you inside Sibling Solutions - the step by step system so you know exactly how to reduce sibling conflict - without being the referee, one less fight at a time.

I got asked this question
I was at a family event and naturally people are curious about the strange job of being a parent coach.
Someone asked me âWhatâs the #1 pitfall a parent can avoid?â
There are LOTS!
But the first thing that came to my mind was: Control
Using too much control or demanding compliance happens so easily, to the parents with the best intentions!
We just want our kids to listen to us and behave and be good kids.
The pitfall is that most children (not all) will push back against control.
âĄïžÂ So in order to get our kids to listen to us: the answer is to get them to work WITH us. And the cool thing is that kids naturally do want to work with us.
Itâs backwards to everything we ever learned about discipline really. The LESS you control, force, punish and push against your child, the MORE they will listen and cooperate.
