What people think and believe outside our lived existence isn't any of our business.

For years, our original designs, including our registered Métis Heritage ribbon and our Floral Bear and Floral Animals series, have been copied, mass-produced, and sold by others without our permission. These aren't just patterns. They're Indigenous art, created by Indigenous hands, and they're protected by registered Canadian copyright.

We stayed quiet while we did things the right way. That work is done. Today we're announcing that 49 Native Design Inc. has begun formal enforcement action to protect our work:

🪶 Our Métis Heritage design is registered with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, and our full design catalogue is protected under the Copyright Act of Canada.

🪶 Formal legal demands have been issued to sellers of counterfeit reproductions of our designs.

🪶 We are working with federal authorities, including the Canada Border Services Agency's Intellectual Property Rights Program, to stop infringing goods at the border before they ever reach a shelf.

To our customers: thank you for standing with us, asking questions, and sending us what you see. If a "Métis ribbon" or "floral bear" product isn't sold by us or one of our authorized retailers, it isn't ours, and the money doesn't go to Indigenous artists.

To anyone profiting from copies of our work: this is your notice. We know, we're documenting, and we're coming through every legal channel available.

Authentic 49 Native Design products are available only at our stores, on our website, or at official 49 Design resellers. If you're ever unsure whether a product is genuine, message us, we'll always tell you.

Our art carries our stories. We protect both.
