To the friend who keeps showing up. πŸ’›

The one who drives them home when they shouldn't be driving.
The one who gets the 2am calls.
The one who covers for them at family dinners.
The one who's used every version of "they're going through some things" so many times it doesn't feel like a lie anymore.
You are not their parent. You are not their counselor. You are their friend, and you have been holding a weight that was never yours to hold alone.

You can love someone and still point them toward professional help. In fact, that might be the most loving thing you ever do for them.

8 Pillars Edmonton. When they're ready, we're here. And so are you. πŸ’™

Nobody tells you about the boredom. 😢

They tell you about the cravings. The withdrawals. The hard conversations.

They don't tell you that one of the hardest parts is a regular Tuesday at 3pm when you have nothing specific to battle and you just have to... be.

For people who've been using to fill silence for years... silence is the hardest room to sit in.
At 8 Pillars we talk about this. We build programming around this. Because the 3pm Tuesday is where a lot of recoveries get lost.

If you're in that silence right now and it feels unbearable...that feeling has a name and there is a way through it.

We can talk about the Tuesday afternoons.

She graduated from 8 Pillars 8 months ago. πŸ’™

She came back last week.

Not because something went wrong. Not because she needed anything.

She came back to sit with a woman in her first week who was struggling on a Tuesday night.

She didn't call ahead. She just showed up with tea and two hours.

Someone did it for me," she said. "I don't know how not to do it for someone else now."

This is what community actually means. Not a transaction. Not a program you complete and forget.

A circle. That keeps getting wider.

8 Pillars Recovery Foundation, Edmonton. The circle is open.

To the partner who's been sleeping on the edge of the bed. πŸ’”

Always half-awake. Always listening.

Ready to respond to whatever the night brings.

You stopped sleeping deeply years ago and you don't even remember exactly when.

This is for you.
You cannot want it for them more than they want it for themselves. You probably already know this. Knowing it doesn't make the nights shorter.

What you can do: know that 8 Pillars Recovery Foundation is in Edmonton. Know what to say when they have a moment of willingness. Have the number ready.

The moment will come. And when it does, we're one message away.

Nobody warned me I'd laugh this much. πŸ˜‚

I thought sober living would be quiet. Serious. Maybe a little grim.

I did not expect the inside jokes. The one who burns toast every single morning and we all pretend we don't smell it. The house debates about what to watch on Tuesday nights. The strange, specific joy of a household that actually functions.

I didn't know I'd been grieving not having that kind of ordinary for so long.
Recovery gave me my sense of humor back. Turns out it was there the whole time, just buried.

8 Pillars Edmonton , where the toast is still burnt and we are all deeply okay with that. πŸ’›

After staying with us for so long, he moved out of 8 Pillars 14 months ago. πŸ’›

We checked in with him last week.

He has his own apartment. He's been at the same job for 11 months. He coaches his son's hockey team on Saturday mornings.

He said something that stopped us in our tracks:

"I don't think about not drinking anymore. I just think about Saturday."
That's it. That's the goal. Not a daily white-knuckle battle. Just Saturday morning hockey and a kid who counts on you to show up.

14 months out of 8 Pillars Edmonton and this is what the other side actually looks like.
If you're wondering if it's worth it, this is your answer.

πŸ“² DM us. Let's get your Saturday morning back too.
