Third Beet Productions

💙 Today was our last show of Confirmed Bachelor! 😭💙

From all of us at 3rd Beet Productions, thank you for supporting live theatre. Thanks to you, we were able to bring this beautiful love story to the Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival, and share one of our favourite works of all time with all of you.

---------------------------------------------------

"As a lover of Jane Austen and Bronte sister novels from a young age, something has always spoken to me about these great romances. There was a glaring omission, however, that always left me yearning for something more: people like me.

As I grew up and explored my identity, I went looking in history books instead for other people who might be experiencing what I was, and found that there was indeed evidence of many people throughout history like myself, but their stories were often buried under both active and unintentional erasure. It often felt like trying to find a needle in a haystack. So often the stories I was seeing were centred on struggle and the burden of being othered. I wanted a story that had all the same loveable bells and whistles of classic romances that I loved but with inclusion at its heart too.

Then, one day I looked around and realized that I was a professional storyteller and could bring the very stories I wished to see to life. Thus began Confirmed Bachelor. As Clayton and I worked on the show, we couldn’t help but slip in moments of humour and levity amongst the passion and heartfelt love story.

This show came to be about unconditional love in all of its forms, and grew into a love letter to every person who has ever found it in the heart to love someone exactly as they are and not just for who they ‘ought to be. I sincerely hope that all those who have been othered or left out of the narrative found yourself somewhere in this show and know that you are not alone, and you deserve your happy endings too."

"Confirmed Bachelor is a two-handed farce of the highest order, the kind of whip-smart comedy that would give Jack Tripper whiplash, as you move from schemes to assumed identities to mistaken identities to confusion about one’s identity. The arc of Gabriel and Eliza is a jolly bit of fun, in this play from writer/performers Clayton James-Plamondon and Erin Leflar...

The emotions underpinning the comedy are genuine, which helps the audience invest in the outcome, and Leflar and James-Plamondon are nimble when switching between comedic beats and heartfelt moments...

It was a thoroughly enjoyable hour."
