“How many SLP sessions will I need?” is a question we hear a lot.
The answer is different for everyone.

Some people come to SLP with a specific goal that can be supported over a shorter block of sessions. Others benefit from support over a longer period of time, especially when their communication needs, routines, work, relationships, or priorities are changing.

At Buttle SLP, we don't decide on a set number of sessions and expect you to fit into that plan. Therapy planning is collaborative. That means we’ll talk about what’s working, what feels manageable between sessions, and whether the support you’re receiving continues to fit your goals.

Whenever possible, we also want you to leave your first session with something practical — a strategy, technique, or tool you can begin using in your day-to-day life.

There isn’t one “right” number of sessions. but the plan should work for you.

Have questions about what SLP therapy might look like for you? Send us a DM or ask us in the comments.

The most important part of all 3 steps is that YOU lead decision making. At Buttle SLP, we’re here as a partner to support you and your care.

Whether your priority is returning to work, finding your authentic voice and communication style, communicating confidently with friends and loved ones, or returning to your book club after a brain injury – we’ll work towards the goals that are meaningful to you.

Do you have questions about working with a SLP? Ask them in the comments or get in touch! 💙🧠

We’re pretty excited to share this one. 💙

Our founder, Meagan (she/her), has been nominated for Health Care Provider of the Year in the 2026 Awards of Excellence in Brain Injury Rehabilitation, presented by Ontario Brain Injury Association and PIA law (McLeish Orlando Lawyers LLP , Thomson Rogers LLP and Oatley Vigmond LLP )

Brain injury work has been close to Meagan’s heart since long before Buttle SLP existed, and the people she’s met along the way - clients, families, colleagues, community partners, and fellow advocates - continue to shape how we show up and do this work.

If you’d like to read a little more about why Meagan is so passionate about the brain injury community, you can find her nominee profile here: https://aoe.pialaw.ca/archives/nominees/meagan-buttle

And if you’ve worked with Meagan, collaborated on care, learned alongside her or crossed paths with her work in some way, you can support her nomination by leaving a comment on her nominee page and casting a vote through this link: https://aoe.pialaw.ca/vote

Mostly, we’re just really grateful to be part of this community. 💙🧠

Your brain has enough tabs open. Your phone can handle some of the boring bits. Here’s a few executive functioning tools I actually use all the time - stick around because I already know this will be a series 🤓

Tell me the annoying little thing you keep forgetting, avoiding, or doing manually. We’ll see if there’s a tech strategy for it. 👇

📍 Location-based reminders
Instead of “remember this later,” I can have my phone remind me when I’m actually in the place where I can do the thing. Think: what does future me need, and when will I need it?

📱 iOS Shortcuts
This is where I get a little intense. If I do something repeatedly, there’s a decent chance I’ve tried to make my phone do part of it for me. Automated texts, file sharing, brain-dump emails… there are a lot of possibilities here.

💬 Remind while messaging
You can attach a reminder to a person, so it pops up the next time you message them. Very useful for outsourcing the “oh dang, I meant to ask you…”

😴Send Later
Nighttime me can write the text when I remember it. Daytime you can receive it. Get it out of your head without dropping a notification on someone at 10:37 p.m.

🎙️ Dictation
Texts, emails, notes, web searches, even some charting. If typing is adding friction, talking can sometimes be the easier route.

🧠 Focus Modes
Different setups for work, personal time, sleep, etc. Fewer notifications and apps mean fewer accidental side quests.

The point isn’t to build the world’s most elaborate productivity system (often the opposite!)

It’s to use the tools you already have to reduce the amount of stuff your brain has to keep active at once.

Kinda chic to have strong opinions about what SLP care should look like. 💅

What’s one thing you wish more healthcare providers asked instead of assumed?

Client-led care, identity, inclusion, and collaboration aren’t “extras” we add in if there’s time. They shape how our team approaches every interaction — from intake calls and goal-setting to how we problem-solve when something isn’t working.

We’re paying attention to more than a diagnosis or a test score. We’re thinking about the human in front of us: what matters to them, how they communicate, what their life actually looks like, what identities and experiences they bring with them, and what they want support to look like.

If you’re working with us, that also means your SLP is willing to question the default, change course, ask instead of assume, and collaborate with you and the other people involved in your care.

We won’t always get everything perfectly right. But this is a taste of what we’re committed to practicing, reflecting on, and continuing to grow in as a team.

Kinda chic, if you ask us. 💅
