Scrolling through my photography folder, seeing how my style has developed over the last few months.

If you aren’t growing as an artist then you’re behind already.

Leaning into shadows, more softness, less contrast.

But it still feels like me.

I’ve taken a step back and am shooting because I love it. Not because I need to make a career out of it. And creating pieces I love and work that inspires me… that’s what it’s about.

Imagine if we were all as happy as Talia Parrent every single day?!

I think we should try.

To find the joy and beauty in every moment.

I prefer the moments that are unplanned.
Maybe slightly out of focus.
The ones that make you feel something.

Photography isn’t about the perfect capture for me.
It’s about the real one.

A feeling.
A fleeting second.
A moment that makes you feel like you were there.

It’s not about f-stops and ISO.
It’s about that feeling you get when a photograph stops you in your tracks—and you can’t quite explain why.

I’ve been blessed to have many of these incredible women surrounding me, having me around to take photos, trusting me to capture the moment and just being my friend.

These women are strong, resilient and inspiring.

And they don’t call themselves cowgirls. This is one thing I’ve always noticed and appreciated. You know they are a cowgirl in their actions, their lifestyle and their demeanour. They never have to tell you they are a cowgirl and chances are they never will. Because they are simply themselves. Doing what they love. And that goes beyond a label

But still, I’m glad we have a day to celebrate them.

Some days stay with you.

25 years later, we still remember where we were. We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage of those who stepped forward when they were needed most.

I don’t photograph a ton of families… but when I do, we’re definitely not standing in a yard smiling at the camera.

Give me horses, a little chaos, moody skies, people you actually like being around, and room to make something a little different.

This evening at Fleetwood Farms Quarter Horses with Greg Parrent and his family was exactly that.

Family photos — Rustic Compass style.

Every branding has its big moments.

But those aren’t always the ones I remember.

It’s the smoke drifting through the air. Horses standing quietly between runs. Conversations that don’t need many words.

Somewhere along the way, those became the moments I started chasing.
