🌿 RAW Weekly Tip: Retaining Walls

A retaining wall is only as good as what's behind it.

Most retaining wall failures aren't caused by the blocks - they're caused by poor preparation.

A properly built wall should include:
✔️ A solid base depth and compaction
✔️ Proper drainage system behind the wall
✔️ The right retaining wall blocks for the job
✔️ Geogrid reinforcement when required
✔️ The right amount of setback

Skipping these steps might save money today, but it can lead to leaning, bulging, or complete failure down the road.

A retaining wall should last for decades, not just until the warranty expires.

Build it once. Build it right.

⚠️ There’s a right way and a wrong way to install hardscape - but too often that ends with corners being cut where it matters most!

Hardscape isn’t cheap, and it shouldn’t be treated like a quick weekend project. If you’re investing in hardscape, make sure you’re talking to a professional - and don’t be afraid to get more than one quote.
Landscaping is a Red Seal Trade. Ask for qualifications.

Now for the pretty part: the "curve appeal".

A curve can completely change the feel of a walkway - softer, more natural, more custom, and way more satisfying when it’s right.

But that perfect curve takes planning. We trace it, shape it, stand back, adjust it, and make sure the flow actually works before the final cuts are made.

Curves are beautiful, but they do mean more cuts, more time, and more waste. If you’re working with a tighter budget or want that ultra-clean modern look, square and straight is still a killer choice.

Built properly. Designed with purpose.

☀️It's been a while!

The last month has been an absolute whirlwind, and that's why you've hardly seen us on social media.

We've been spending our days where we'd rather be - out on job sites building landscapes, installing walkways & patios, planting trees, laying sod, excavating, and helping our clients bring their projects to life!

To every one of our customers: thank you. Your trust and support mean everything to us.

And to our crew... thank you for showing up every day, working hard through the heat, and taking pride in every project. We couldn't do it without you.

We're incredibly grateful to say that our 2026 schedule is full.

If you're thinking about a landscape project for 2027, now is a great time to start the conversation. The earlier we can meet, plan, and design, the better we can make your vision come to life.

Here's a small look at what we've been up to over the past few weeks. 👇

And don't worry... our Weekly Landscaping Tip is making a comeback this week, so keep an eye on our page! 🌱

As always...

🌱 MOWING HIGHER CREATES A HEALTHIER LAWN 🌱

One of the simplest ways to improve your lawn is to raise your mower deck.

Maintaining turf at approximately 3-4" encourages deeper root growth, helps retain moisture during hot weather, and naturally shades out many common weeds.

A few additional mowing tips:

✂️ Never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade in a single mowing.

🔄 Alternate mowing patterns to prevent rutting and encourage upright growth.

🔪 Keep mower blades sharp for a clean cut and reduced turf stress.

🍃 Leave clippings when conditions allow. They return valuable nutrients to the soil.

A healthy lawn isn't created by cutting it shorter. It's created by encouraging strong roots, dense turf, and consistent growth.

The best lawns are grown from the ground up. Mowing height matters!!

🌱 SOD ISN'T AN INSTANT LAWN 🌱

A newly installed sod lawn is more like a transplant than a finished product.

Fresh sod has just been harvested from a sod farm, meaning much of its root system was cut during the harvesting process. While it may look like a finished lawn on day one, it's actually a lawn under stress that needs time to re-establish itself.

Over the next few weeks, new roots will begin growing into the soil below. The goal is to encourage those roots to grow deep and establish a strong, healthy foundation.

💧 WATERING IS EVERYTHING

For the first 10-14 days, the soil beneath the sod should remain consistently moist.

• Water immediately after installation
• Water deeply enough to wet the soil beneath the sod
• Lift a corner occasionally to check moisture levels
• Pay close attention to edges and corners, which dry out first
• Avoid letting the sod dry out during establishment
• Adjust watering based on rainfall, temperature, and wind conditions

👟Minimize foot traffic while roots are establishing

✂️ Wait to mow until the sod has rooted into the soil. A simple tug test can help - if the sod resists being lifted, the roots are beginning to establish.

A properly prepared soil base and proper watering schedule are what turn fresh sod into a long-term healthy lawn. Remember - It All Starts with the Soil!!

🌱 IT ALL STARTS WITH THE SOIL 🌱

One of the biggest misconceptions about hydroseeding is that it is the seed/mix that creates a beautiful lawn.

But the reality is - a lawn is only as good as the soil underneath it.

You can use the best hydroseed mix available, but if it’s applied over compacted, nutrient-deficient, poorly structured soil, the lawn will always struggle.

Healthy turf starts below the surface with a proper soil profile:
• Quality topsoil with Organic matter and Biological activity
• Proper pore space for oxygen and water movement
• Loosened subsoil for drainage and root pe*******on
• Stable native parent soil

One of the most important, and most overlooked, parts of soil health is capillary movement. A properly prepared soil profile allows moisture and oxygen to move naturally through the ground, helping roots access what they need long after the surface dries out.

Strong roots create thicker, greener, more drought-resistant lawns that perform better year after year.

If you want a lawn that actually lasts --- start with the soil.
