🧡 Can a board game change how we understand history?
Listen to Anishinaabe educator James Darin Corbiere talk about his groundbreaking project, The Truth in Truth and Reconciliation Educational Board Game. Originally designed just to help his own high school students engage with tough history, it has since grown into a massive learning tool used in classrooms across Canada.

James shares how traditional textbooks often sanitize the past. He wanted to create an immersive, interactive experience where players actually bear witness to the impacts of colonialism.

You start the game with four crucial Value Cards representing Land, Language, Culture, and Identity. Instead of winning by simply collecting wealth, your goal is to gather four Eagle Feathers to become a SURVIVOR before the relentless policies of the Church and the Crown strip away all your Value Cards.

Tools like this shift history from abstract words on a page into an empathetic, shared human experience. By gamifying these difficult conversations, it creates a safe but brave space for students and adults to confront systematic racism, cultural genocide, and the real history of the residential school system without pulling punches. It forces us to sit with the "Truth" before we can ever hope to achieve "Reconciliation."

Speaking your traditional language is an act of resiliency, it honors those lost and suffering from residential school trauma. These stories can't go forgotten. It's hard to hear, hard to talk about, and even harder to experience it firsthand. But it is important to share these hard truths, to acknowledge them, and hold people accountable, so the past doesn't repeat itself.

These stories are important, and they do make a difference.

Today, we wear orange together. 🧡

Orange Shirt Day is about remembering the children who were taken, honouring Survivors and Elders, and recognizing the families and Nations whose lives and histories were forever changed.

It is about remembering where we have come from, and carrying those stories forward.

Our history.

Our families.
Our communities.
Our languages.
Our stories.
Our strength.
We remember the children.
We honour the Survivors.
We listen to our Elders.
And we carry this forward for the generations still to come.

Every Child Matters.

Today, tomorrow and every day, we remember.

CP in the Mornings sits down with Gitxsan Artist Jessica McCallum of Sacred Art by Hlox to discuss the design she commissioned for CFNR in 2023.

"Along this Horizon we see hope. Our Children are with the Ancestors, enveloped in the light of the sun. They canoe back to the stars where they continue to dream and watch over us all. Our Journey is with them. One day we will paddle our canoes and meet them again. Our Journey here has just begun, as we uplift our Peoples, by embracing who we are as Survivors, and who we become as we heal."

This past weekend reminded us of something we already know.

There is strength in standing together.

Across our region, we are many Nations, many languages and many territories. But when one of our communities is hurting, we stand beside one another.

We stand with you.
You are not alone.
Our hearts are with you.

This is Indigenous strength.
This is solidarity.
This is Nations standing together.

Different Nations. Different languages. Different territories.

Many Nations. Many languages. One voice.

We see you.
We hear you.
We stand with you.

Today, tomorrow and every day.

Your Nation. Your Station. CFNR.

The CFNR office will be closed tomorrow, September 30th, to observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We invite you to reflect on our shared responsibility to listen, learn, and continue the crucial work of reconciliation. Take time to honour the children who were taken, the families who endured this loss, the Survivors who carry these stories, and the communities continually impacted by residential schools.

Today, tomorrow, and every day, we stand together.

Every Child Matters.

As we are heading into back-to-back elections and to the polls we thought this may be a useful reminder.

We're just 18 days until the local general election for Mayor and Council but as you may know there will now be a provincial election held on October 24, exactly one week after.

This is a quick summary of the types of responsibility that falls to different levels of government.
