If we're going to move the needle within a disordered eating culture, the hardest reality to accept is that recovery isn't a linear fix.
It's a challenging daily commitment to untangeling your worth from the mirror and the scale.
A lot of people confuse “maintaining control” with being healthy; especially when certain behaviours have become normalized or even praised.
Control is an Illusion. Trying to feel safe and in control by shrinking food choices, can often be disordered eating disguised as discipline.
If staying at a certain size or weight requires constant restriction, anxiety about fueling, overexercising, or feeling like you're mentally and physically exhausted, it may be worth asking whether your body is being supported the way it needs.
It's ok to start to question the standards you’ve been trying so hard to live up to.
Sometimes, a "healthier life" looks very different than what we were lead to believe.

I used to think sobriety was mostly about not drinking.
What I didn’t realize was how much of the process would actually be about learning how to live with myself again without constantly escaping, numbing, avoiding, or disconnecting.
A lot of recovery isn’t glamorous. It’s sitting with emotions you spent years trying not to feel. It’s recognizing how often you abandoned yourself just to survive another day. It’s rebuilding trust with yourself slowly, after losing it so many times.
But somewhere in the middle of all that discomfort, something starts changing. You begin responding differently. You become more honest. More present. Less disconnected from your own life.
And eventually, peace stops feeling impossible.
Not because life suddenly becomes easy, but because you’re finally no longer at war with yourself every day.

One of the more painful parts of recovery, that people don’t talk about enough, is how much it can change relationships.
A lot of people realize certain friendships were built around drinking, using, avoiding emotions or escaping life together. And when someone starts changing, getting sober or becoming more honest about what they need, those relationships can start feeling unfamiliar or unsafe very quickly.
That doesn’t mean the connection wasn't real. Sometimes it means the relationship could only survive within a certain version of life.
And grieving that can feel incredibly lonely.
Especially in the beginning, when sobriety already feels isolating enough on its own.
But over time, many people begin finding friendships where they no longer feel pressure to numb themselves, perform, or abandon parts of who they are just to belong.
And those relationships tend to feel a lot more genuine, safe and sustainable.
If this resonates with you, support, coaching, and companionship are available through Epiphany Recovery.💛
The people around you shape more than your plans. They influence your habits, your mindset and how you show up in your life.
When you’re building a life that feels more grounded and intentional, the environment you’re in matters. Being around people who support your choices, respect your boundaries and don’t question your growth can make a tangible impact.
Sometimes, it’s not about cutting people off, it’s about choosing spaces that feel more aligned with where you’re going.
The right circle makes it easier to stay connected to the version of yourself you’re moving toward.

Not every part of recovery has to be heavy. 💛
Sometimes it’s the small things that can help the most: a comfort show, a walk outside, cold sparkling water, a playlist that understands you, or routines that make the day feel a little more manageable.
Little by little, those things can start adding up.
