This weapon was originally built in the 1970s for the Mi-24 attack helicopter, where the aircraft's frame absorbs its extremely high rate of fire and heavy recoil. In this case, the gun was mounted on a simple ground setup instead of a helicopter, and the recoil proved far more powerful than the stand could handle. Reports suggest Russian forces have been adapting these aircraft guns for ground based anti-drone units, but this footage shows the risks of using aviation weapons outside their intended setup. The incident highlights how equipment built for one purpose can behave unpredictably when repurposed. Should militaries be more cautious before adapting aircraft weapons for ground use like this?
