I just wrapped up my first Kensington Market Art Fair (also my first show in Downtown Toronto)! It started out a bit chaotic for me because of the strong winds and my newbie outdoor market setup. Fortunately, things calmed down as the fair went on. I didn't sell any originals just yet but I'm happy to see so many people admire my paintings and even seriously considered getting one. I did sell fine art prints for the first time with one person buying three prints at once!
I haven't made it yet but hey it's only been three months since I launched my art business. I'll keep going until I convince you to get my paintings as . 🏠 ☺️

I would often beat myself up for not having an "art style" and for always wanting to try new media and subjects. I've always felt like my art is all over the place. But after getting accepted to Kensington Market Art Fair which only allows original work and prints (no stickers, keychains, pins etc), I was forced to curate a collection that I think best represents the artist that I am right now. It turns out that the years of experiment, though it didn't look linear, still helped me build a cohesive body of work. And seeing them all together neatly framed – I think it's a pretty good collection. I'm actually proud if it.
This collection of original gouache paintings will be on display and for sale at the Kensington Market Art Fair today (where I will pretend like it's a solo exhibition haha) 🖼️

Studio Handog will be at the Kensington Market Art Fair tomorrow, Sunday, Sept 27 from 12-7 pm! I'm bringing my original gouache paintings with certificates of authenticity – all framed and ready for hanging. I will also bring some giclée fine art prints and postcards.
Surprise gifts await those who will be bringing home originals! 🎀

I've been keeping my paintings in plastic sleeves, hidden away in my drawer. But since I have the opportunity to show my work at the Kensington Market Art Fair, I finally decided to frame my precious babies. And I do think they clean up good. (Even if these are not the best frames out there – someday I'll realize that my gouache paintings are worth the custom framing by Rustic Burl & Co.)
I'm terrified but come see my original gouache paintings on display:

Holbein autumn gouache palette versus my pumpkin paintings 🍁 I loved finding these little pumpkins at the Farmers' Market and loved painting them even more.

We had a wonderful time at the Visual Arts Mississauga Art in the Park! Being surrounded by fellow artists and meeting so many people who appreciate art in such a beautiful place always leave me feeling energized. 💪🏻✨ Hope to see you again in the next one!

After six years of painting with gouache (and watercolor), I've identified the things that I think are essential to my practice. This setup also includes my essentials for filming process videos because as many artists would already know, being an artist in 2026 also means being a content creator. I'm not a big fan of filming while painting but I think I found a way to make it tolerable. 🎨🎥
What are your painting essentials?

Apart from the classic postcards, stickers, and enamel pins that we bring to markets, here are some new things to look forward to at Studio Handog's booth at the Visual Arts Mississauga Art in the Park tomorrow, September 19, Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00 pm.

When I can't think of what to paint, I just looked through the photos in my phone and choose the one that reminds me of a happy moment. I remember taking a photo of this salted caramel sundae during the first summer night market, marking the end of the cold months and the start of warmer and brighter days. 🍦☀️

Trying to hold on to the last bits of summer by painting this salted caramel sundae I got from an ice cream truck 🍦What a fun subject to paint in gouache! I loved painting all the creamy, gooey textures of the soft serve ice cream and fudge.
