Today, on International Day of Peace, we recognize the people and communities working toward a safer, more peaceful world. 🕊️
This year’s theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” reminds us that peace is not simply the absence of conflict. It is built through cooperation, dialogue, dignity, and the actions we take every day.
We also recognize the service members, Veterans, and peacekeepers who have served in the pursuit of peace and security around the world.
Today, we honour their service and reflect on the role we can all play in building a more peaceful future.

Behind every uniform is a family who serves in their own way. 🇨🇦
Today, on Military Family Appreciation Day, we recognize the spouses, partners, children, parents, and loved ones who stand alongside Canada’s serving members.
Military families experience their own side of service. They navigate deployments and long periods apart, relocations and changing routines, missed milestones, uncertain schedules, and the many adjustments that come with military life.
Their sacrifices may not always be visible, but their strength, patience, and support are felt every day.
At C4V, we are proud to be part of a community that includes not only veterans and serving members, but the families who have supported them throughout their journeys.
Today, we celebrate Canada’s military families and thank them for everything they do, through every deployment, every homecoming, and every chapter in between. ❤️🇨🇦

🎓 Graduate Highlight: Tim McCoy
After a 20-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces, Tim McCoy was looking to build the skills he needed for his next chapter in IT.
After learning about C4V through Veterans Affairs Canada, Tim enrolled in the Network Security Associate Program, where plenty of Packet Tracer labs and hard work eventually led to two accomplishments worth celebrating: completing the program and passing his CCNA.
Now, he says he’s looking forward to “causing trouble in a networking environment.” We have a feeling he’ll fit right in!
Congratulations, Tim! We’re proud to have been part of your journey. 🇨🇦

September is Su***de Prevention Month.
For many veterans, serving members, and military families, asking for help can be one of the hardest steps to take. But needing support is never something to be ashamed of.
This month is an important reminder to check in with the people around us, have the conversations that may feel difficult, and make sure those who are struggling know that support is available.
As Major (Ret.) David Blackburn reminds us, your life is precious to the people who love you. If you need help, please reach out. If you are concerned about someone in your life, reach out to them too.
In Canada, confidential support is available through the Su***de Crisis Helpline by calling or texting 9-8-8, along with dedicated resources for veterans, serving members, and military families.
You are not alone. 🙏

Today marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a day that forever changed New York City, the United States, and people around the world.
That morning, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center became the site of an unimaginable tragedy. Thousands of lives were lost, families and communities were forever changed, and first responders and ordinary people demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of devastation.
Today, the Tribute in Light that shines above Lower Manhattan serves as a powerful reminder of the lives lost and the absence left behind.
On Patriot Day, we remember the victims, honor the first responders and all those who stepped forward to help, and reflect on the strength shown by New York City and communities across the country in the days and years that followed.
We also recognize the lasting impact of September 11 on the military community. In the years that followed, a generation of Americans answered the call to serve, beginning a period of service and sacrifice that would shape the lives of countless service members, veterans, and military families.
Twenty-five years later, we remember. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Remembering the courage and service of the Canadian soldiers who stood their ground during the Battle of Medak Pocket in September 1993.
We honour the members of 2 PPCLI who served under incredibly difficult circumstances, and recognize this important chapter in Canada’s military history. 🇨🇦
September 9 – 17, 1993
Operation Medak Pocket, Croatia
The Battle of Medak Pocket should have been celebrated as a story of Canadian heroism. Instead a pivotal moment in the country’s history became one of its lost chapters.
For seven days in 1993, faced with the ethnic cleansing of Serb civilians by Croatian forces, the Second Battalion of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry took a stand. As they beat back fierce attacks, the soldiers watched villages burn and heard the screams of tortured victims.
Although the Canadian public did not immediately recognize the nature or scale of this engagement, in 2002 Governor General Adrienne Clarkson awarded 2 PPCLI the Commander-in-Chief Unit Commendation, recognizing the unit’s performance of extraordinary deeds to the highest standard in extremely hazardous circumstances. The battalion was also awarded the UN Force Commander’s Commendation, one of only three such awards in UNPROFOR’s history.
The Battle of Medak Pocket was significant in Canada’s history with UN Peacekeeping.. As many as 27 Croats were killed and four Canadians wounded. When it was over, the Canadian soldiers had pushed the Croats back to their original lines.
UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali said the Canadian soldiers brought credit to their profession, saved lives, and enhanced the credibility of UN peacekeeping forces.

🎓 Student Highlight: Thomas Lamb
After serving in the Canadian Army and building a career in software engineering, Thomas Lamb joined the Coding for Veterans Generative AI Program looking for something specific: the structure and support to keep learning and upskill.
What he found was a renewed passion for technology and the confidence to go deeper into Linux, Python, and Generative AI. He even took on the challenge of rebuilding GPT-2 from scratch using what he's learned so far through the program, alongside his own continued learning.
Thomas’s story is a great reminder that growth doesn’t have an expiration date.
We’re proud to have you in the C4V community, Thomas!
