October is Occupational Therapy Month! 🙌
All month long, we're celebrating the Occupational Therapists across Lifemark and the important work they do to help people participate more fully in the activities that matter to them.
Whether they're supporting recovery, independence, a return to work or the routines of everyday life, our OTs make a difference in so many ways. 💙
Here are some of the wonderful OT teams across Lifemark – join us in thanking them for everything they do.
Happy Occupational Therapy Month!
When your vestibular and visual systems are not working together as well as they should, everyday movement can feel more challenging. Turning your head while walking, looking around a busy store, reading signs while moving, or changing direction quickly may bring on dizziness or unsteadiness.
The exercises demonstrated in this video are examples of gaze stabilization, convergence, and eye-head coordination work that may be used in vestibular rehabilitation. The goal is to gradually help your brain make better use of the information coming from your eyes, inner ear, and body as you move.
A vestibular therapist can assess what may be contributing to your symptoms and choose exercises that match your needs, tolerance, and goals.

Knee pain can have a way of showing up after a longer walk, a workout, or a busy day on your feet.
Topical menthol may provide temporary relief from minor knee pain by creating a cooling sensation that changes how discomfort feels. Learn when menthol may be helpful, how it compares with ice and heat, and how it can support your physiotherapy and knee rehabilitation plan. 👇
Can menthol help with knee pain? What to know between physiotherapy visits You’ve been working hard with your physiotherapist and starting to see real progress for your knee pain. Putting on your shoes. Taking the stairs. Getting up from a chair. ⚖️👟
Your balance is working during everyday moments you may not even think about – until those movements start to feel a little less steady.
Balance can be trained. Regular balance and strength exercises can help support your stability, mobility, and confidence as you get older. 💪
💾 Save this video and try these 5 exercises daily.
⚠️ These exercises are for general educational purposes and may not be suitable for everyone. If you have concerns about your balance, speak with a physiotherapist or healthcare professional.
Being able to get down to the floor and back up is a movement skill worth maintaining as you age. 💪
The Sitting-Rising Test (SRT) looks at how strength, flexibility, and balance work together during that movement.
If it feels challenging, a physiotherapist can assess what may be making the movement difficult, then create a treatment plan to help improve the strength, balance, mobility, and movement skills involved.
Give it a try if it feels safe for you, and notice how the movement feels.
⚠️ The SRT is not a diagnostic test and may not be appropriate for everyone. Stop if you experience pain, dizziness, or feel unsteady. If you’re unsure whether it’s appropriate for you, consider speaking with a physiotherapist or another healthcare professional.
