There's nothing wrong with having a salad for lunch.

But there's a big difference between eating vegetables and building a complete meal around them.

If lunch is mostly lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes, you may have plenty of volume on your plate without much protein or staying power. Then a couple of hours later, you're hungry again and wondering why your โ€œhealthy lunchโ€ didn't hold you over.

Instead of making the salad bigger, think about what you can add to it.

Chicken, turkey, eggs, lentils or tofu can turn those vegetables into a much more substantial meal. Cottage cheese or a Greek-yogurt-based dressing can be another way to work protein into what you're already eating.

This applies beyond salads, too. Rather than judging a meal by whether it looks โ€œhealthy,โ€ ask whether you've actually built something that's going to satisfy and fuel you.

Nutrition doesn't need to be complicated to support your fitness goals. A few practical changes to the meals you're already eating can go a long way.

Follow In-Home Trainer for more realistic fitness and nutrition advice you can actually use.

Your environment is one piece of the health puzzle that doesn't always get much attention.

Researchers have been studying how exposure to certain endocrine-disrupting chemicals, including BPA and some phthalates, may affect hormones and metabolic processes. These chemicals can be found in plastics, packaging, and many other products we encounter regularly.

Now, you don't need to become afraid of everything in your home, and you can't realistically eliminate every exposure.

Instead, focus on what you can control.

Strength training is one of the most useful tools you have for supporting muscle mass, body composition, and metabolic health. And unlike trying to create a perfectly chemical-free environment, it's something you can actively incorporate into your week.

If weight loss is your goal, don't make it exclusively about eating less and doing more cardio. Build muscle too.

Our trainers can help you start strength training safely and consistently without ever having to leave home.

A wall push-up isn't a failed floor push-up. It's a starting point.

If you're new to strength training, there's no benefit to forcing yourself into an exercise your body isn't ready to perform well yet.

Start at the wall. Learn to keep your body controlled. Engage your core. Build strength through your chest, shoulders and arms. Then, when you're ready, you can gradually make the movement more challenging.

That's how strength training is supposed to work: start with what you can do well and progress from there.

This is what our trainers do with clients every day. We adjust the exercise to the person instead of expecting the person to somehow fit the exercise.

That's one of the advantages of personalized in-home training. You can start at your actual fitness level and progress at a pace that makes sense for you.

If you'd like help getting started with strength training at home, we'd love to hear from you.

A lot of people hesitate to eat more protein or start strength training because they don't want to get โ€œtoo bulky.โ€

But building significant muscle size doesn't happen by accident.

It takes time, consistent training, increasing resistance, adequate nutrition, and a deliberate effort to build that kind of physique. Adding protein to your meals and strength training a few times per week isn't suddenly going to transform you into a bodybuilder.

What it can help you do is work toward something far more relevant for most people: becoming stronger and maintaining that strength as you get older.

Think about what you actually want from your fitness.

Maybe it's carrying your groceries without thinking twice. Feeling confident lifting something around the house. Keeping up when you travel. Staying active with your family. Maintaining your mobility and independence.

Those are pretty good reasons to stop being afraid of getting stronger.

Our trainers bring personalized strength and fitness training directly to your home, with workouts built around your goals, abilities, and starting point.

If you'd like help creating a plan that works for your schedule, we'd love to hear from you.

There are thousands of free workouts online. So why would anyone need a personalized fitness plan?

Because knowing a list of exercises and knowing which exercises make sense for you are two different things.

A workout you find online doesn't necessarily account for your current abilities, goals, schedule, balance, mobility, strength, previous exercise experience, or the reasons you've struggled to stay consistent before.

That's why choosing a program should involve more than asking, "Does this look like a good workout?"

We've put together six questions to ask yourself before starting your next fitness plan. If you've been jumping from program to program without finding something you can actually maintain, this is a good place to start.

And if you'd rather have someone help you figure it out, our trainers are here for you! Send us a DM or visit us online to learn more.

If your goal is fat loss, the goal shouldn't simply be to make the scale go down as quickly as possible.

You also want to think about preserving the muscle you've worked to build.

That's what makes the study discussed in this video so interesting. When participants were dieting, those getting only 5.5 hours of sleep lost more lean body mass than those getting 8.5 hours, despite both groups losing a similar amount of total weight.

It's a good reminder that your results aren't determined by calories and workouts in isolation.

Strength training matters. Protein matters. Sleep matters too.

If you're putting effort into improving your body composition, don't treat getting enough sleep as something you'll worry about after you've perfected everything else. It belongs in the plan alongside your training and nutrition.

Our trainers can help you create a fitness routine that works with your schedule and supports your goals, right from home.

You don't need a gym full of equipment to start building stronger legs.

Sometimes you just need a chair.

Sit-to-stands are simple, but they're also incredibly practical. You're strengthening your legs while practicing something your body needs to do every single day: lower yourself with control and get yourself back up again.

And there's plenty of room to progress.

If you're just starting, use your hands for support. As you get stronger, rely less on your hands, slow down each rep, or turn the movement into more of a controlled squat.

Start with the version you can do well today. Then build from there.

This is one of the reasons in-home training can work so well for beginners. Our trainers can use your space, your stairs, a chair, resistance bands, weights, or whatever makes sense for your current level. You don't need to get โ€œfit enoughโ€ for a gym before you start.

If you'd like to start building your strength from home, we'd love to hear from you.

If you're constantly fighting hunger at night, look at what happened during the rest of your day first.

Did you have a filling breakfast? Was there a good source of protein at lunch? Did you eat actual meals, or did coffee and quick carbohydrates carry you through until dinner?

Sometimes what feels like an evening problem is really the result of not setting yourself up very well earlier in the day.

You don't need to obsess over every calorie or create a complicated meal plan. Start with a much simpler question when you're putting together a meal:

Where's my protein, and where's the real food?

Building more satisfying meals throughout the day can make it much easier to manage hunger later on. And like exercise, it's usually the basic habits you can repeat consistently that make the biggest difference.

Our trainers take the same practical approach to fitness. We bring personalized training directly to your home and help you build habits around your actual lifestyle rather than expecting your life to revolve around a fitness plan.

If you'd like help creating a plan that works for your schedule, we'd love to hear from you.

There's a big difference between asking, "What's the most exercise I could possibly fit into a perfect week?" and asking, "What can I realistically commit to every week?"

For a lot of people, the answer might be two workouts.

And that's not a bad place to start.

The CDC recommends that adults perform muscle-strengthening activities on at least two days each week. Yet we regularly see people convince themselves that if they can't work out four, five, or six days a week, there's no point starting.

That's the all-or-nothing thinking that can keep you stuck.

Instead of designing your routine around your most motivated week, build it around your actual life. Start with something manageable, make it consistent, and give yourself the option to build from there.

Two workouts you actually do every week can be a much better starting point than five workouts you keep planning to start "next Monday."

If you'd like help creating a realistic fitness plan that works for your schedule, we'd love to hear from you.

It's easy to notice more stiffness as you get older and assume, well, I guess this is just what happens now.

But age isn't the only thing influencing how your body feels.

Think about how much time many of us spend sitting during an average day. Your muscles and connective tissues aren't getting many opportunities to move through different positions, and that can contribute to that tight, stiff feeling.

Aim to accumulate 30โ€“45 minutes of movement throughout your day. Walk. Get up from your desk. Try some slow, comfortable stretches. Incorporate gentle dynamic or light bouncing movements if they're appropriate for you. And make sure you're staying hydrated, particularly when you're exercising. Electrolytes may also be useful when you're losing significant fluids through sweat.

Small amounts of movement throughout the day can add up.

Our trainers can also help you work on mobility, strength, and overall fitness without having to leave home. Your workouts are built around your current abilities and what your body needs.

If you'd like help creating a plan that works for your schedule, we'd love to hear from you.
