ACTRA Toronto x TIFF: The Market delegate Tamara Podemski checks in from on what this year's delegation has been all about: presence. On red carpets, on screen, in panels and networking events, we have had an amazing festival gathering information to bring back to ACTRA Toronto Members.
Her tip: "If there is something you are particularly interested in...from financing to audience building to funding...all of that is available on the TIFF website, and you can just scroll through all the panels, all the speakers, and then follow up with who interests you."
ACTRA Toronto VP Mercedes Morris shares highlights from her time as a delegate, including a panel moderated by Colman Domingo, where two directors (Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar) presented a parity model which includes collaboration with performer unions.
"I think that's very exciting, and it will help provide more opportunities again for our members."
ACTRA Toronto delegate Shawn Ahmed shares what he's learned at TIFF: The Market: the unglamorous but essential side of producing, and how actors are uniquely suited for this work.
"Actors are some of the grittiest people in this industry. So if anyone's going to figure it out and run a budget in a way that makes sense, that's creatively fulfilling but also delivers on a whole bunch of other financial particulars...I think it's going to be ACTRA members."

An amazing showcase of ACTRA Toronto performers at wraps tonight with the world premiere of YAGA!
Carson (ACTRA Toronto Member Clark Backo) is a local detective, at once weary and protective of the small coastal town she serves and its inhabitants. After the disappearance of commercial fishery heir and local party boy Henry Park (Hudson Williams), Carson begrudgingly partners up with Rapp (ACTRA Toronto Member Noah Reid), a private investigator hired by the Park family. When their initial lines of questioning lead them to an enigmatic and seductive university professor (ACTRA Toronto Member Carrie-Anne Moss), it becomes clear that it’s going to require all hands on deck to uncover the truth hidden underneath these shrouds of secrecy.
YAGA also stars ACTRA Toronto Members Megan Follows, Sheila McCarthy and Olympia Ordanis. We can't wait to see this incredible cast!
