Been having trouble being kind to myself lately.

A few years ago a started a journey to get healthy and got good advice that my goal should be to get stronger not smaller. I lost sight of that along the way.

At one point I got more focused on the scale then how I was feeling or the numbers from my doctors that actually matter. After my yearly physical it came back that all my numbers had improved except I was 20 pounds heavier and instead of being happy I just felt like I left myself down.

I’ve become self conscious which comes at a bad time. The band is ramping up and sending songs to radio and what we need is for me to be on camera posting videos everyday so people can discover us, but being on camera has been taking so much out of me lately that I’ve just been avoiding it.

These are themes that originally inspired Aspartame several years ago and are still demons I fight today as we promote the re-recording we did with Garth Richardson

There is a lot that has changed since then though. I did get stronger by finding a great Physical Therapist to work through my injuries and trainer to help me work around them. I’m in less pain all the time. I moved my studio from the woods to in a new, amazing walkable city. My band got more serious and my songs got stronger.

I’m going to try my best to focus on those good things and more while being proud of a body that has gotten me through the challenges.

So despite feeling like I look heavier than I want to look I want to focus on how proud I am of my pup for learning to paddle board with me over the weekend.

And please, go stream our new version of ‘Aspartame’ and listen for it on your local Alt Rock station across Canada
