Foraged from the garden

For those that have followed me for a while you know that my garden is my sanctuary, my mental health treatment.
I have put in so much blood sweat and sometimes tears into my garden.

This summer I didn’t do a lot of work on my garden. I hurt my back in June and it took me a good 8+ weeks before I could even bend over to pick something out without being in excruciating pain, but the garden still blessed me all summer with beautiful blooms.

I pulled the Ivy off the house and all the dry hydrangeas are from my garden this year.

The oakleaf hydrangea that are these beautiful brown colour and l the garden has been such a blessing.

I don’t know how long this Garland will last as the Ivy is fresh but next weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and as long as it makes it till then I will be happy.

It was a beautiful weekend today most beautiful October day the leaves are changing, but it’s still warm and the evenings are crisp my favourite time of year.

The vestibule project of 2025 has opened a vast amount of ideas in my brain about the rest of the main floor in particular the dining room.

The dining room is open to the kitchen and the living room the stairs to go up to the 2nd floor are in the dining room.

It really is a passage way for the whole main floor and I was happy with the dining room until the vestibule. Blame it on the wallpaper!!!

I always that the table chairs that we had in there were a bit big, but I didn’t have a vision on what to do with it and when we renovated the kitchen, we took down the wall and since we always enter in through the side door into the kitchen the large poster gave a focal point.

I loved it for a while. I’m not loving it so much now and that is because of the wallpaper and the paint that went into the vestibule and all I can think is the poster doesn’t go with the direction that the main floor is going in.

We were lucky enough to get a French provincial dining table and chairs from my mother-in-law and father-in-law and it is gorgeous.

It’s smaller scale and that really helps with the circulation. We moved other table and chairs down in our basement that we just renovated, which I will put in another reel for you.

The seats needed to be recovered so that send me on the rabbit hole of finding fabric and I ended up on Etsy and saw this William Morris pattern.

I ordered it from Pandoras Upholstery in the UK, it looks exactly like the photo it came on time. All the duties were included because they shipped through the Royal post out of the UK and I only had to pay I think $22 in sales tax for Ontario.

I have never recovered a chair in my life, but I bought myself a pair of fabric shears. We own a staple gun and we have YouTube so let the games begin.

I’m very excited the progress - now we need to convince Michael to put up the board and batten so I can hang all the blue plates and the I will have my grandma chic dining room of my dreams!

The best gifts are the ones that have history are sentimental and mean something to you and is the best way to decorate your house.

I have always loved this little painting that my grandfather did and I’m so happy to have it in my home and hanging above my desk it has meaning to me and everything that you cherish and have meaning to you is what you should use to decorate your home

There’s nothing better than a Sunday reset!

After an amazing week with our granddaughters full of swimming, country fairs, bowling, movies and the zoo I took Saturday off and rested. Today I spent the day cleaning my main floor and it feels good. Going back to work tomorrow, knowing that my kitchen is clean, fresh flowers on the table.

Thursday is my day to work from home and I love it because I get to sit in my comfy chair in my office with my Diet Coke and look through some of my favourite design books on my lunch.

This book I got for my birthday. The Art of Antiquing in France and it is absolutely wonderful book full of great information about how to antique where to antique how to care for items when you get them and my dream is to go on an antiquing trip through France.

That is a bucket list item for me in my life. In the meantime I’m just going to enjoy this book covered to cover.
