Vancouver Island’s Midwifery 1970-1998 (short film, extended media) // There was nothing underground about it, it just needed to be done and was already being done as it has since the beginning of time: in the hands of capable women. From Salt Sitting Island, Sooke, Saanich, Campbell River and Courtney, BC, these are the pre-regulation stories and the clues to why this ancient practice was almost erased - only in so-called North America. This is an island film, made here, by those involved with midwifery (birth, abortion, doulaship, menopause, death) both in front of-and behind the camera.
A breath of new life is coming to this extended project.
Thanks to the generous support of the BC Arts Council without which, this project would not have realized.

DIS - a dual contemporary art exhibition - is now open until Dec 5th UVic Legacy Art Galleries // Hard to encapsulate the counterpoints and melancholy of a show based on memory and transmutations but the words from the artist, Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa , really stuck with me “Violence folds time.”
Honoured to have served as a part of the curatorial research team and media arts consultant for this project and really enjoyed meeting such incredible colleagues and artists Past Wrongs, Future Choices UVIC
