Here’s the story behind the photo of Staqeya, the lone wolf of Discovery Island, carved by Kent Laforme Artist, accompanied by a beautiful poem by Linda Rogers van Krugel. The story will also be featured in a Greenpeace Canada magazine next spring.

This is Staqeya, the Lone Wolf of the Lone Wolf of Tl’ches, (or Discovery Island) carved by good friend and artist Kent Laforme Artist. Sacred to the local indigenous tribes, Staqeya was tragically shot and killed by a hunter not long after he swam back to the mainland. The void in this sculpture points directly toward Tl’ches where the Lone Wolf once roamed, and for me, represents the bullet that ultimately killed the wolf.
