IT’S THE BIG WEEKEND -THE JOSIE MUSIC AWARDS.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be there in person this weekend.

And honestly… that sucks.

Because this one means a lot to me.

About 25 years ago, I left a city of over 4 million people (Toronto) and moved to the country. Somewhere along the way, I found country music and decided I wasn’t going to try to fit into an existing box.

I was going to create my own lane.

URBAN COUNTRY.

Fast forward all these years and somehow, some way, I’m sitting here nominated for TWO Josie Music Awards.

🏆 Album of the Year - FULL TANK OF GAS
🏆 Music Video of the Year -WH***EY

I won’t be in that room when the names are called.

But believe me…

I’ll be there in my head.

I’ll be thinking about every late night. Every doubt. Every setback. Every little victory that got me here.

I’ll be thinking about Full Tank Of Gas and what it took to make that album.

It truly was a labour of love.

And it wouldn't have been possible without Khenne Mazze and Dave Murray, who stood beside me through the ups and downs and helped me turn my stories into the music I heard in my head.

To my family, thank you for believing in me when I decided to introduce the world to Urban Country and do this my way.

To Marlon Simon, who stood with me ON a frozen Lake Ontario for hours in -25°C weather with a -32°C wind chill to shoot Wh***ey…

You’re a different kind of crazy, brother. 😂

And thank you for also bringing The Way It Is to life with me.

And to everyone who has streamed, shared, supported, playlisted, talked about, or simply pressed play on this album…

THANK YOU.

Over 100,000 streams across the platforms.

From a little basement studio that cost me about $3K, with spiders probably listening to every damn take…

We made records that I believe can stand the test of time.

That's something I’m incredibly proud of.

There’s a cocky side of me sitting here saying:

“YESS MUTHAF**KAS… WE DID IT!”

😂

And then the other side says:

“Relax, Chris. Nobody knows you yet. The world doesn’t know you yet.”

And honestly?

Both sides are right.

Because whether I bring home a trophy or not, being recognized like this is already a massive win.

I guess I made enough noise to be seen.

And we all know how hard that is when you're an independent artist trying to carve out your own space.

So while I won’t physically be there this weekend, the Josie Music Awards will be heavily on my mind.

I’ll be thinking about the people who helped me get here.

I’ll be thinking about my family.

I’ll be thinking about the music.

And I’ll be thinking about that crazy idea I had all those years ago…

What if I just made my own lane?

Well…

Here we are.

Urban Country.

Whatever happens when those envelopes are opened, I’m grateful.

Humbled.

Proud.

And maybe just a little bit emotional.

Because this guy from Toronto, making records in a $3K basement studio surrounded by spiders…

made enough noise to be heard.

And that’s a hell of a feeling.

❤️

Its very hard to sell music when its so much easier to just stream it for free.

Here's the thing - you stream it free from whatever platforms you use - you get Ad's - the platform makes tons of money and we get 0.004 cents. You pay a platform for premium they make a ton of money and we make 0.004 cents.

Support you're favorite artists by purchasing the music you love and own the music instead of renting it at the expense of the artists.
