The ocean’s top predators are disappearing because of an even greater threat above the surface. 🌊🦈 Every year, humans kill around 100 million sharks — a staggering toll on creatures that have thrived for hundreds of millions of years. Though often seen as dangerous, sharks are vital to keeping oceans healthy and marine ecosystems balanced for countless species. The real danger to them comes not from beneath the waves, but from human actions above. An ocean without sharks isn’t safer — it’s a sign the ecosystem is in trouble. It’s time to see sharks not as something to fear, but as something to protect. 💙

Every year, humans kill around 100 million sharks — a staggering number for animals that have survived for hundreds of millions of years.

Sharks are often portrayed as dangerous, but the reality is different. They are vital to healthy oceans, helping maintain the balance of marine ecosystems that countless species depend on.

The greatest threat to sharks isn’t what swims beneath the surface. It’s what happens above it.

An ocean without sharks is not a healthier ocean — it’s a warning sign of an ecosystem pushed out of balance.

It’s time to see sharks not as something to fear, but as something worth protecting. 💙

Every few winters South Florida gets a strange kind of weather report, one that warns residents to watch out for falling iguanas. It sounds like a joke, but it is a genuine phenomenon that says a lot about how much this landscape has changed. 🦎

Green iguanas are not native to Florida. They arrived through the pet trade and escaped or were released, and the warm subtropical climate let them thrive along canals, seawalls, and backyards from Miami up the coast. When a rare cold snap pushes temperatures into the 40s, these cold blooded reptiles go dormant, lose their grip, and quite literally drop from the trees where they were roosting.

The cold stunned iguanas usually are not dead, just immobilized, and many warm up and scurry off once the sun returns. Wildlife officials still consider them an invasive nuisance, since they dig burrows that undermine seawalls and munch through gardens and native plants. It is a reminder that a warm climate cuts both ways, welcoming visitors that were never meant to stay. 🌴

Have you ever come across a cold stunned iguana after a Florida cold snap, and what did you do?
