It’s October, and the season is slipping away faster than people expect. Once the cold sets in, exterior window cleaning gets a lot harder to do well, so this is the window (pun intended) to get it booked.

Ever wondered what goes into properly cleaning an exterior light fixture? Here’s the whole process. ✨

This was one of six fixtures at the entrance gates of a client’s home, and one of seventeen I cleaned that day alongside the windows.

I take the fixture apart, remove the bulbs, and cover the sockets so no water or debris gets in. Then I wash it inside and out with a sponge brush and microfibre, using glass cleaner and a little Dawn. A thorough rinse with my pure water tank and a wide fan nozzle, then I clean the bulbs themselves, which are always the dirtiest part thanks to insect droppings, and reassemble.

One thing worth mentioning: the client didn’t want these fully detailed, so I keep what I do within what she asked for and her budget. There’s no sense going overboard, running late, or charging more for a level of clean she didn’t request. Doing it right also means doing it to the scope the client actually wants.

Cleaning a bakery window is a special kind of torture. 🥐

Everything inside looks delicious and it’s closed, so I couldn’t have any. Next time I’ll book them when they’re open.

I don’t do a lot of storefronts, but I really enjoy them. This one got the full treatment: cobweb duster first, then soap, an extra scrub with the white pad, a wipe of the frames, a clean squeegee, and then I wiped down the aluminum trim work under the window too. That trim is an area a lot of cleaners skip, and it’s exactly the kind of thing I can’t leave dirty just to charge a little less.

This customer because they want it done right. Grateful for the work.

Practising with my left hand, whether I want to or not. 🫠🪟

I got to work alongside another window cleaner named John the other day, which was a lot of fun. One thing he pointed out: I favour my right hand too much and should practise more with my left.

This LaSalle laundry room window turned out to be the perfect chance. There’s a garden bed underneath it, so I had to position myself on the right side and clean the whole thing left-handed. No choice but to practise.

It was very dirty, which made it satisfying, and it’s just plain fun to be able to make these videos. Hopefully you find them interesting to watch too.
