Last year saw the sharpest drop of global aid, including to HIV programmes.

As a consequence, HIV testing fell by 22% in high-burden settings, which means people do not know their HIV status and do not receive treatment.

Fully funding the HIV response is critical to end AIDS.

Community-led services are critical for key populations most affected by HIV to access services like HIV prevention.

However, the decline of funding puts this vital work at risk.

Globally, 41 million people are living with HIV. UNAIDS latest data shows that nearly 9 million of them are not receiving treatment.

In the new Political Declaration, countries have committed to ensuring 40 million people living with HIV are on treatment by 2030.

To meet this goal, we must ensure equitable access to HIV services, diagnostics and medicine.

Due to low testing among children, only 55% of all children living with HIV are receiving lifesaving treatment.

This is far below the treatment coverage among adults living with HIV (79%).

This is unacceptable. We must close the gap so that no child is left behind.

Progress towards the 95-95-95 targets has been maintained, despite the funding cuts in 2025.

However, treatment gaps persist including among children living with HIV, where only 54% are on treatment.

We must close these gaps.

Last year's cuts in funding had a devastating impact on HIV globally.

UNAIDS data showed that PrEP uptake dropped sharply by 38% between 2024 and 2025 in 62 countries.

We must protect the progress towards ending AIDS.
