Ever heard of the Mount Kupe Bushshrike?

Hidden within the misty montane forests of Southwest Cameroon is one of the world’s rarest birds the Mount Kupe Bushshrike (Telophorus kupeensis). Found nowhere else on Earth, this remarkable species is a symbol of Cameroon’s unique natural heritage.

Listed as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List, the Mount Kupe Bushshrike faces increasing threats from habitat loss, deforestation, and forest degradation. Protecting its habitat means protecting countless other species and the ecosystems that sustain both wildlife and people.

Every protected forest is a step towards ensuring that this extraordinary bird continues to thrive for generations to come.

Let’s protect what makes Cameroon truly unique.

Today, we celebrate the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem.

Mangroves are among the most important ecosystems on Earth. They protect our coastlines from erosion, store large amounts of carbon, improve water quality, support fisheries, and provide livelihoods for millions of people.

They are also home to an incredible diversity of life, from microscopic algae and plankton to crabs, molluscs, fish, birds, reptiles, and many other species that depend on these unique habitats.

Sadly, human activities such as pollution, deforestation, and unsustainable coastal development continue to threaten mangrove ecosystems.

Today is a reminder that protecting mangroves is everyone’s responsibility. Let us work together to conserve, restore, and value these ecosystems for the benefit of both people and nature.

Happy International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem!

Dear Community Members,

We won’t always be around to clean our streets, gutters, and waterways. It costs little to keep a trash bag or bin and dispose of waste responsibly. Yet every day, we see plastics, bottles, food waste, and other rubbish dumped directly into our gutters and drainage channels.

When these gutters become blocked and our communities flood, we are quick to blame the government. While waste management challenges do exist and collection services may not always be timely, we all have a role to play in keeping our environment clean.

The question is: who suffers the consequences of blocked gutters, polluted streams, and flooded streets? We do. Our families do. Our communities do.

A big thank you to the Think Tomorrow and Greening Forward teams for taking action and helping clean our community. Their efforts show what is possible when people choose responsibility over indifference.

But the work does not end with a cleanup campaign. Real change happens when each of us makes better choices every day.

Be different. Be responsible. Be considerate. Protect your community.
